The curtains have risen on the 11th edition of Dubai Design Week (DDW) 2025, transforming Dubai Design District (d3) into a dynamic, cross-cultural epicenter for architecture, art, and innovation. Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this year’s festival confirms Dubai’s ascent as a crucial global meeting point for the creative industries, bringing together over 1,000 designers and architects from more than 50 countries.

The curatorial direction this year is decidedly reflective and human-centered, exploring design as a “social connector” and a civic force. This vision is realized through over 30 large-scale installations that delve into spatial typologies, material intelligence, and cultural nuance.

The Architectural and Design Vanguard

At the core of the week’s program are several showcases of exquisite craftsmanship and forward-thinking design:

  • Downtown Design: The region’s foremost fair for high-quality contemporary design returns, featuring established luxury brands like Poltrona Frau, Kartell, and Kohler, alongside newcomers such as Roche Bobois and Stellar Works. Regional highlights shine through with BEIT Collective from Lebanon and the “Designed in Saudi” showcase, reflecting a commitment to elevating MENA talent.
  • d3 Architecture Exhibition: In partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Gulf Chapter, this exhibition showcases groundbreaking works by leading international and regional architectural firms, cementing d3’s role as a platform for spatial innovation.
  • Urban & Abwab Commissions: The 2025 Urban Commission was awarded to UAE-based Some Kind of Practice, exploring the timeless courtyard as crucial communal infrastructure. Meanwhile, Maraj clinched the prestigious 2025 Abwab commission for a design inspired by ornamentalism and Bahraini craft traditions.

The festival is also celebrating the inaugural d3 Awards, championing emerging regional talent, with Ohireme Uanzekin announced as the first winner.

Dialogue and Dedication: The Forum & Editions

Intellectual rigor anchors the week at The Forum, conceived by Lebanese architect and designer Roula Salamoun using a tactile, organic approach. Keynote speakers include international heavyweights like Marcel Wanders, Tom Dixon (making his Dubai debut to discuss material innovation), Lee Broom, and David Hicks, joined by regional leaders such as Pallavi Dean and Omar Al Gurg.

Further showcasing design as collectible art, Editions Art & Design spotlights limited-edition works. Highlights include the global launch of collectible furniture from studios like Corpus Studio and Lebanese-French architect Badih Ghanem’s installation “Remember Love?” — a striking contrast of raw construction blocks and polished metallic objects.

As a platform for dialogue, experimentation, and commerce, Dubai Design Week 2025 not only reflects the city’s dynamic cultural growth but also actively shapes the narrative of design across the globe, bridging tradition and a progressive future.
