It feels like everyone is making podcasts these days (but seriously, like is everyone making a podcast but us?) and like most things, it is hard to find the diamond in the ruff. Podcasts are super-hip but the vast amount of podcasts makes choosing one (that you will actually want to listen to) is a real challenge. If you are not familiar with podcasts they are essentially a radio show available online and come in a variety of topics. Think of it like ice cream—there is a podcast for everyone! Whether you are a rookie podcast listener or a seasoned vet here are a few of Flair’s picks for podcasts you need to check out!

My Favorite Murder (Exactly Right)

If you are a true-crime lover then this might be the best podcast you encounter. This female-led podcast is unique in that it is one part girl-power and one part horror. By horror we mean each podcast discusses a horrific real-life murder story. Hosted by best-friends Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark the podcast is an upbeat escape that you won’t be able to stop listening to. Don’t take our word for it, My Favorite Murder has been at the top of the charts since 2016 and even has a mini cult following. MFM podcast lovers call themselves “Murderinos”…how cute!

The Papaya Podcast (Dear Media)

Sarah Nicole Landry is a self-made star whose journey from Canadian-mother to international role-model has been spectacular to watch. Gaining fame after losing over 100 pounds Sarah decided to share the not-so-perfect parts of herself with the world via social media. Instagram-famous in her own right The Papaya Podcast tackles issues of body positivity, body confidence, motherhood, and her vulnerability makes her podcast addictive. If you want honesty, candid conversation, and seeds of wisdom then this is the podcast for you.

The Trend Reporter (iHeartRadio)

Trends come and go but which ones should you grab onto? Journalist Mara Schiavocampo helps listeners know the 4-1-1 on all the latest trends in beauty, health, style, and fashion. Mara who is an Emmy Award-winning TV personality makes this weekly podcast fun and informative all while being brief. This is the podcast for trendsetter!

BackTalk (Bitch Media)

Unfortunately, this podcast is a bit of a throwback as BackTalk is no longer making podcasts but it needs an honorable mention as this is one of the best feminist podcasts of the last ten years. Created by Bitch Magazine (Bitch Media) the podcast is a potpourri of pop culture, current events,  feminist issues, social justice, and everything in between. Amy Lam and Dahlia Balcazar are a perfect pair and make the podcast feel like you are a friend—not a listener. Don’t fret, there are no new episodes being made but there are a plethora of back episodes from 2015-2020 that will make you laugh, cry, and think about the world through a feminist lens.

Forever 35 (Apple Podcasts)

You don’t have to tell us your age but for those listeners over 30 it is refreshing to find a podcast that represents women in this age range. Hosts Doree Shafrir and Kate Spencer wanted to fill this gap and took matters into their own hands. With illustrious careers in journalism and writing, these powerhouses take on various topics in each episode. With a heavy emphasis on self-care, the podcast has both full-length and mini-episodes that include a mix of interviews, listener driven questions, and more.
