Every outfit needs jewelry to complete the look, but today’s designers are taking their creativity to a whole new level. Jewelry designer, painter, and pharmacist Dina Kamel is expressing her creative edge through art. Flair Magazine sat down with Dina to discuss creativity and design.
Do you have a muse? Where do you get your creative inspiration from?
I can not limit my inspiration to one thing I genuinely look for it everywhere in all aspects of my life, as a pharmacist and painter as well. “Inspiration always exists but it has to find you working” as the famous artist Pablo Picasso once said. Creating mood boards and sketching even if only for 5 minutes a day can make a huge difference. I find it helps when you take inspiration from all aspects of who you are, you’ll find it gets pretty interesting.
What are your favorite materials to use when designing jewelry?
I’m focusing on raw metal designs and exploring properties of brass, silver, platinum, and gold. I enjoy creating designs that are bold yet effortless to add to any outfit.
What advice would you give to young designers?
I think it’s very important to create a signature design, it definitely is an edge that can help you stand out in the market and be pretty unique, that’s definitely the number one advice I’d give to someone who is looking to build their brand to stand out.
What’s your jewelry philosophy?
You should be moved by jewelry, inspired by it, it’s a source of energy that can change your mood or outfit; speak something about you and even radiate its own energy and draw in onlookers. Humans are always trying to connect and express; one of the most satisfying things in the world is connecting with someone or something. Our pieces are boldly designed to display the amount of talent and beauty in the art of handcraftsmanship, and I think it’s important to support and give back to our community and also celebrate what has now become a forgotten skill amidst the mass-production world we live in. Even if only by educating ourselves and understanding how special handmade products are.
Do you have a most treasured item in your personal jewelry collection?
I think it would be a necklace I’m always wearing, it’s very simple that I can also add other statement pieces without having to take it off most of the time. It also holds great sentimental value, gifted to me by two very special people; my parents.
