Kahhal Looms, Egypt’s leading weaving house, preserving a family legacy of more than 150 years, proudly unveils its latest visionary collaboration with Shosha Kamal Design House: The Ramses Collection. Featuring two limited edition carpets, the collection is a profound homage to Ramses the Great, translating the unstoppable force and enduring legacy of the legendary pharaoh into contemporary textile art.
The Kadesh rug, from Shosha Kamal’s King Ramses Collection, is the newest addition to Kahhal Looms’ Weaving Eternity collection, handmade rugs inspired by the grandeur of Ancient Egypt. Ramses the Great was not just a ruler, he was, and remains, a legend. The Ramses Collection honors the warrior: the force who led the Battle of Qadesh with unmatched command and unshaken will. In the face of chaos, he stood alone, turning the tide through strength, strategy, and presence, a moment that would echo through history.
The intricate design of the two rugs brings to life this legendary scene, capturing Ramses the Great as he charges into battle. It is a stunning depiction of fearless leadership and unyielding courage, woven into an eternal symbol of power in motion. Yet, his triumph did not end in conquest alone, but in legacy. Marked by the first recorded peace treaty, Ramses sealed his name not only in victory but in history itself. The collection stands in honor of the ruler, the leader, the warrior, and the legend.
Reflecting on the deeply personal process behind the design, Shosha Kamal shared: “For two whole years, when my team and I were working on the creation of the Ramses the Great collection, I read every book, I watched every documentary, and I frankly couldn’t help but fall in love. I fell in love with his strength, his vision, his wild love for his country and for his wife. I thought it was a journey of design; it turned out to be a journey of love.” For Kahhal Looms, the collection represents a breathtaking intersection of location, legacy, and craft, finding its ultimate home at the brand’s newest store within the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).
“There is an overwhelming sense of destiny in where this collection lives,” says Hend ElKahhal. “When you walk into our flagship at the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Ramses Collection is the very first thing that greets you. To have these two rugs resting just a few steps away from the colossal statue of Ramses the Great himself is incredibly profound. It is a daily reminder of the eternal weight of Egyptian heritage, and it is truly special to see our 150-year family legacy sitting face-to-face with history.” The physical proximity to the pharaoh’s monument elevates the rugs from interior design pieces to living, tactile monuments of their own. “Translating the sheer scale, presence, and unstoppable force of Ramses into a woven medium was a monumental undertaking,” adds Mohamed ElKahhal.
“Standing in the GEM, with the king’s statue looking over the space, you can actually feel the power in motion that Shosha captured in her design. Every single knot in these two rugs holds the weight of that history.” The Ramses Collection is now available for viewing at the Kahhal Looms flagship store within the Grand Egyptian Museum.
