In line with its unwavering commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates, Carrefour, which Majid Al Futtaim owns the exclusive rights to operate in Egypt, is honoring its five-year partnership with the Egyptian Food Bank. Demonstrating a profound commitment to creating positive social impact, Carrefour’s contributions, surpassing EGP 3 million, have provided crucial food supplies, impacting over 15,000 beneficiaries. Through its long-term partnership with the Egyptian Food Bank, Carrefour aims to continue serving more people and contributing to the development of a sustainable society.

Throughout the partnership, Carrefour Egypt has actively participated in charitable campaigns and volunteer initiatives aimed at collecting donations for vulnerable families. This was demonstrated through Carrefour’s substantial contribution of supplies valued at EGP 500,000, among other monetary donations, to assist affected Palestinian civilians in Gaza amidst the current conflict. Customers also contributed by purchasing pre-packed food supply boxes directly from Carrefour stores, delivered to the families in Gaza by the Egyptian Food Bank. Additionally, Carrefour’s “Round Up Your Bill” initiative enables customers to donate the remaining change from their purchases to a good cause, whether in-store or through the MAF Carrefour app.

Furthermore, during the pandemic, Carrefour Egypt played a crucial role in supporting Egyptian communities by supplying essential food items to those affected. During the month of Ramadan, Carrefour launched the “Kart El-Kher” initiative, enabling customers to purchase the card at Carrefour stores across the country to assist in donating ready-made Iftar meals. Carrefour Egypt also participated in organizing a “Ma’edat Al Rahman” and contributed to packing charity boxes with the help of Carrefour colleagues, which was then delivered to families through the Egyptian Food Bank.

Mohammed Hassan, Vice President of Business Development at Majid Al Futtaim Retail in Egypt, stated: “We are proud of our partnership with the Egyptian Food Bank, spanning over five impactful years. Our belief in the power of collaboration as the foundation for building a sustainable and inclusive society is reflected in this partnership. It goes beyond addressing humanitarian issues; it extends to the active contribution of our dedicated team of over 7,000 colleagues.”

He added: “This is a testament to our unwavering focus on fostering the growth and prosperity of the communities in which we operate. As a trusted local partner, we strive to create value for the retail sector and the local community. Majid Al Futtaim, rooted in Emirati heritage with a deep connection to the Arab world, is dedicated to continued collaboration with humanitarian organizations across the region. This commitment underscores our responsibility to the well-being of the people in the region, emphasizing our role as a responsible corporate citizen.”

Mohsen Sarhan, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, said “We are delighted with the significant achievements we have accomplished through our collaboration with Carrefour over the past 5 years. Throughout this period, we have rallied the combined efforts and resources of both the Egyptian Food Bank and Carrefour to serve the community through volunteers and campaigns to secure food security for beneficiaries. This aligns with the primary activities and strategic plans of the Egyptian Food Bank to provide necessary food for the most deserving individuals across Egypt, contributing to the promotion of sustainability and social development. The collaboration with Carrefour is part of our overarching partnerships and agreements with major economic entities, civil society organizations, and active stakeholders in this context. This collaboration has played a crucial role in delivering food to a substantial number of beneficiaries, stemming from our role as a specialized food institution and the execution of our strategy based on the principle that ‘Food; is the essence of life.’ We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Carrefour, recognizing it as one of the key partners in the successful implementation of the bank’s programs.”

Carrefour Egypt remains committed towards its social sustainability efforts, implementing responsible policies and contributing to community development.
