Have you ever felt stuck, as though your life is not moving forward and you’re not sure which path to venture? Do you wonder if there is really a plan for your life or is it better to just be floating about, simply going through the motions? All the people who made it big tend to talk about ‘purpose’ and ‘vision’ all the time, like keyword ingredients in every motivational Ted Talk, said to make your life count. Although somewhat cliche, we can’t deny the facts, but let me present yet another word that is key to this equation – ‘hope’.
A seed that grows
A lot of times we think that ‘what if’ scenarios are detrimental to our mental health. They definitely could be if you’re thinking negatively. What if I mess up this job interview and never find a better opportunity? What if I end up completely alone? Usually, this train of thought can be a playground for fear, regret and disappointment. But what if… you flipped your mindset and your brain sounded a little bit more like this – What if this is a season of new beginnings and I could finally get a fresh start? What if I become more grounded and learn to reach out to people from a place of authenticity? Once hope is planted in your heart, it multiplies and accelerates. You might need to water it every now and then, but you will begin to dream again, which brings me to my next point.
“Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.”
– Emily Dickinson
The ability to dream
There can be no vision or purpose without the ability to dream; it is virtually impossible. We picture goals before we can attain them. The freedom to dream is not only an expression of your most inner wants and desires, it is the instigator of hope and the means by which you can change your current reality.
“There is nothing like a dream to create the future.”
– Victor Hugo, Les Misérables
Hope is contagious
It is always helpful to surround yourselves with dreamers and people who thrive on hope. The more you spend time with them, the more you will be inspired to become more alive, no matter what season you initially felt stuck in.
