Witches, rejoice – our Halloween watchlist is here! I love Halloween. I love dressing up, ungodly amounts of sweet treats, and binge watching horror films. Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can be a complete freak and no other girl can say anything about it. Sorry, Regina George. It is quintessential to have a scary movie marathon on Halloween night, and we’ve got you covered. Whether you enjoy satirical horror, zombie flicks, supernatural hauntings, or yelling โ€œDonโ€™t go in there!!โ€ At your screen – thereโ€™s something on this list for you. Light a candle, grab your snacks, and get ready for a night of boooo-nified terror.

Halloween (2007)

Starting off incredibly strong with the obvious pick of the litter. I will die on the hill that Halloween 2007 is much much better than the original. Itโ€™s brutal, sensationally gory and Rob Zombie does not pull any punches. He also casts his hot wife in every film he directs, which I find to be a testament to true romance. Couple goals indeed.ย

Scream

Wellโ€ฆdo you like scary movies? A classic. An icon. I suggest skipping the marathon and watching the first and fourth entries only. Drew Barrymoreโ€™s opening scene definitely belongs in the horror hall of fame.

Saw

My comfort film forever and always. Arguably one of the best plot twists in cinema history. You can simply enjoy the first film, or commit to a full franchise marathon. I suggest the latter.

P.S. anyone who thinks Saw is simply a torture film definitely need to reassess. Put some respect on John Kramerโ€™s name.ย

Coraline

Who said animation canโ€™t be absolutely bone-chilling? Coraline is one of those films you can watch a thousand times, and youโ€™ll still manage to find an easter egg on your thousand and first viewing. Fun fact for the girlies: Teri Hatcher, aka Susan Mayer from Desperate Housewives, voices Coralineโ€™s Mother and the Other Mother. Wisteria Lane walked so the Other World could run.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burtonโ€™s magnum opus. I can never pick a side in the is-this-a-Halloween-movie-or-a-Christmas-movie debate. Iโ€™ve landed on both. Youโ€™ll find this on our Christmas watchlist as well, so stay tuned!ย

Scooby Doo

An absolute fever dream of a movie that every kid born between 1997 and 2001 remembers as their introduction to scary movies. Itโ€™s hilarious and has just the right amount of spooks if you want to enjoy a fun family movie night without having to worry about your kids never sleeping again.

It (1990)

Rest in peace, Tim Curry, you were an absolute legend. I promise you the miniseries is much less daunting than the 1,183 page novel. It (2017) is just as good, but thereโ€™s just something more disturbing about the original Pennywise.

Sinister

I talk a big game of being a horror movie fanatic and refusing to watch Sinister. An experiment conducted by the Science of Scare Project ranked this as the number one scariest movie of all time. I agree. Watch at your own risk.

The Cabin In The Woods

A group of college friends head to a remote forest cabin for a weekend. What could go wrong? Everything, obviously. The Cabin In The Woods lures you in with a classic teen teen slasher film premise, before turning the entire genre upside down. This is also listed on our Summerween list, but I just couldn’t resist – it’s perfect all year round.

Fright Night

This might be one of the more niche entries on this list, but the minute you get a glimpse of Colin Farrell as a vampire, youโ€™ll understand why I included it. The perfect film for anyone who prefers their horror with a little humor and a lot of blood.

As Above, So Below

If youโ€™re a fan of found footage horror, this oneโ€™s for you. A group of explorers venture into the Paris catacombs and quickly discover that some places are better left alone.

Jennifer’s Body

โ€œNice insult Hannah Montana, you got anymore harsh digs?โ€ Jennifer Check, the patron saint of misunderstood movie villains. The script was ahead of its time, low-rise jeans were super in, and the soundtrack remains top tier. The girls who get it, get it.

Shaun Of The Dead

Simon Pegg is too hungover to notice a zombie apocalypse. Peak British humor. Once upon a time I was 9 years old and watched this on MBC 2 and couldnโ€™t sleep for approximately three months. Definitely takes the cake for best zombie movie of all time.

The Conjuring

Last but certainly not least, demonic possession. Maybe leave the lights on for this one.

Happy Spooky Season!
