Cancel all your plans for this weekend because Netflix is releasing its newest jaw-dropping action-comedy: Spenser Confidential. It is no coincidence that the director, Peter Berg, is a favorite of all the hard-core action fans around the world. And we promise you it is nothing like the typical action movies where the hero beats the crap out of everybody and walks away clean.

Spoiler Alert! Post Malone experiences acting for the first time in this movie and we will leave it up to you to decide how well he did.

Ex-cop Spenser, played by Mark Wahlberg, is a notorious troublemaker. Urged to leave Boston for good, he gets out of prison only to find one last reason for him to stay. He finds out his former colleagues got murdered and his cop instinct begs him to dig deep until he brings the culprits to justice. Spenser recruits Hawk, played by Winston Duke, a promising, yet impulsive MMA fighter to help him with the investigation.

You might think that asking for a favor from your ex is a bad idea, however, Spencer does not hesitate to turn to Cissy Davis, played by Iliza Shlesinger, his foul-mouthed ex-girlfriend, for help. While Hawk and Spencer share nothing in common and would not be friends otherwise, they become each other’s support system on this mission. Bridging a divide between two generations, Spenser Confidential is represented by Spenser and Hawk’s unlikely friendship.

The magic of this movie stems from its setting: 2020’s Boston. When Spenser reclaims his freedom, he is overwhelmed by how much Boston has changed since he last walked its streets. The small-town familiar feel has been replaced with the energy of a humming metropolis. He grapples his way through as he tries to rediscover the only home he has ever known. You’ve seen all the Irish Mafia/Whitey Bulger kind of South Boston stories but you haven’t seen what Boston looks like now.

Taking on that classic Boston gangster-crime genre and bringing a fresh look to a familiar city, Mark Wahlberg said, “A big part of this movie is standing up for what’s right for your community and yourself.”
