The tan may be doing its job, but your skin is probably ready for a break.
Skin after Sahel season often needs a little extra attention. After weeks of Sahel sun, salty water, chlorine, sunscreen, heat, air conditioning and very late nights, itโs no surprise that our complexions may be feeling a little dry, dull or simply not themselves.
And while we love the post-summer glow, thereโs usually another side to it: dehydration, uneven tone, rough patches and the occasional breakout that seems to arrive just when youโre getting back into your routine.
The good news? You donโt need to throw everything in your bathroom cabinet away and start again. A few simple changes can help your skin settle back into its rhythm.

First things first: give your skin some moisture
After spending most of the summer between the beach and the pool, your skin is probably craving hydration.
Start with a gentle cleanser and a good moisturizer, especially at night. Look for ingredients such as ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic acid or panthenol. A hydrating serum can also be a simple way to give tired, dehydrated skin some extra moisture.
And donโt be tempted to keep washing your face because it feels oily. Sometimes what feels like excess oil is actually dehydrated skin trying to compensate.
Maybe donโt scrub the summer away

We get it. Youโve come back from Sahel, you see a few dry patches and suddenly you want to exfoliate everything.
But this is one of those moments when doing less is actually better.
If your skin feels dry, tight or sensitive, give it a week or two before reaching for strong acids, scrubs or other intensive treatments. Once your skin feels comfortable again, you can slowly add gentle exfoliation once or twice a week.
Your tan will disappear on its own. Let it.
Keep wearing your SPF

Just because the beach weekends are over doesnโt mean the sun has gone anywhere.
Keep using a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning, particularly if youโre spending time outside. Itโs also one of the most important things you can do if youโre trying to improve pigmentation or uneven skin tone.
Thereโs really no point investing in brightening serums if youโre skipping sunscreen.
If your skin looks a little uneven, be patient
Spending weeks in the sun can make pigmentation more noticeable. If thatโs what youโre dealing with, you can start introducing ingredients such as vitamin C or niacinamide into your routine.
But donโt introduce five new products at once because youโre impatient to see results. Pick one, give it time and see how your skin reacts.
Sometimes the best skincare decision is simply giving a product enough time to actually work.
Your body needs a reset too

Your face isnโt the only thing that spent the summer in the sun. Pay some attention to your shoulders, arms, legs and dรฉcolletage too. A good body moisturizer after your shower can make a surprisingly big difference, especially when applied while the skin is still slightly damp.
If your skin feels rough but not irritated, add a gentle body exfoliator once or twice a week.
And please moisturize your hands. Theyโre often the first place to show how much sun theyโve had.
The easy post-Sahel routine

- You donโt need a complicated 12-step routine. Keep it simple.
- Start your morning with a gentle cleanse, follow up with moisturizer, and finish with SPF.
- For the night, cleanse your skin, apply a hydrating serum, and lock it in with moisturizer.
- Lastly, once or twice a week, gently exfoliate, but only if your skin feels comfortable.
- Then, once your skin feels balanced again, you can start bringing back your usual treatments.
Because honestly, after a summer of late nights, long beach days and one too many dips in the sea, your skin probably doesnโt need another complicated plan. It just needs a little hydration, a little patience and a few weeks to recover.
Welcome back from Sahel. Your skin is officially off duty.
