Reinforcing its brand pillars of innovation and sustainability, Mango released a special capsule collection of 3D accessories a few months ago as a part of this year’s spring/summer line. While this would only be the second time the brand manufactured products using 3D printing technology, this collection of accessories is definitely worth talking about.
Flaunting pretty summery designs, the collection features seven key items – a bag, sandals, a necklace and four pieces of costume jewelry. Embracing one of the iconic trends within the latest spring/summer collection, the signature motif printed on this 3D collection is the daisy!
Each piece was made using printed TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), which is considered both sustainable and recyclable material, since it is derived from vegetable origin with natural dyes, and extracted from onion, turmeric, sandalwood, indigo and spinach.
If you can’t picture a collection more environmentally friendly than that, think again! The pieces are also made with zero-waste production; what you may not know is that 3D printing only requires the necessary amount of material in order to produce the digital design, leaving zero waste behind. While that sounds great to hear, it is actually explosively mind blowing to the sustainable fashion movement, since 3D printing is quickly becoming the most efficient and most sustainable manufacturing method to date.
More than that, this collection is the product of another collaboration with Comme des Machines, a leading Spanish company specializing in the production of sustainable fashion using 3D printing. The creative process has allowed a group of young artisans to create costume jewellery, bags and fabrics, and even become trailblazers in the digital transformation of the textile industry.
The special 3D collection is available on mango.com and all major stores worldwide.
