As far as we’re concerned, Naomi Scott is as good as it gets when it comes to inspirational public figures. Aside from her stunning voice and powerful portrayal of Princess Jasmine, there is a lot more to her than what meets the eye. In a Youtube series titled ‘Vogue Visionaries’, Scott’s episode is the first of eight classes from British Vogue, which will be hosting experts including Alexa Chung, Sam McKnight, Celeste and Patricia Bright, talking about how to succeed in the entertainment, fashion and beauty industries. While Scott shared advice based on her personal acting career, we felt it could apply to just about everyone in any given field. Here is the gist of her golden words of wisdom.

Try not to let ‘imposter syndrome’ hold you back

When we were kids, we used to just go for things without overthinking about them. We used to take leaps of faith without weighing every little risk. In Scott’s case, she never went to drama school, but someone saw potential in her, and she simply said, “yeah, sure!”

Get your content out there

Whether you film, paint, write or act, make sure you produce content and put it out there. People might see it and notice something special about it. What do you have to lose? It would be a shame if you had talent and no one knew about it but you. Scott was cast in ‘Lemonade Mouth’ based off a Youtube video of her singing in her school musical.

Don’t be afraid to be assertive

Know why you do what you do. Trust your instinct, make your choice and just go with it and be consistent. “Everyone around you is going to have some idea of where they see your career going and they are going to create that in their minds more if you’re not being clear as to who you want to be. You have to be vocal about how you see yourself and that only helps the people around you help make that a reality.”

Don’t be so hard on yourself

Be prepared before you go to a meeting but “once it’s done, it’s done. Let it go. You can’t go back and that’s okay; you’ll have many more.” If you screw it up, it might make you cringe thinking back on it “but it would be a good story to tell people over dinner”. Only focus on what is within your control.
