Photopia Launches Cairo Photo Week’s 3rd Edition

Climate Change is on Top of This Year’s Agenda (The Legend) Exhibition to Commemorate Farouk Ibrahim, unveiling Exclusive Photos to be displayed for the Very First Time. Photopia; Egypt’s Photographers hub, is to launch Cairo Photo Week (CPW) in its 3rd edition, from February 8th to 18th 2023, pledging to deliver an exquisitely versatile collection of activities, workshops, and panels adding more to the previous editions. At the heart of Cairo and specifically in 8 of Downtown’s most alluring historic venues, CPW shall cover almost all photography genres, image and video making, including documentary, cinematography, advertising, fashion, food, portraits, photojournalism, photo editing, fine arts, conceptual photography, archival and media production.

Abou Leila – stated: “Photopia is setting up Cairo Photo Week (CPW), with the theme “Back to Raw”, to promote for Egypt as an enchanting spot to launch the World’s largest art festivals; like Paris and Milano Photo Week. With the kick start of its 3rd edition. CPW is an outstanding international occasion gathering Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa’s photographers under one roof to strengthen their ties, while exhibiting regional and local talents from different age brackets, experiences and nationalities.”

Abou Leila added: “CPW aims at empowering local and regional photographers by enriching their creative and artistic sense in such a competitive industry, through a 400-hour educational courses, talks, sessions, and Portfolio reviews by the hands of top-in the field, documentary and commercial filmmakers, cinematographers and advertisers. 70% of this round’s agenda serves educational purposes, while the remaining 30% represents exhibitions, open studios, and networking among 100+ international, regional, and Egyptian photographers, lecturers, and exhibitors. The scheme is fueled with 14 exhibitions, 90 panel discussions, and 15 workshops, to be witnessed by 5000+ visitors.”

Cairo Photo Week is distinguished this year by (The Legend) Exhibition, commemorating the late Farouk Ibrahim. The exhibition shall showcase the phenomenal masterpieces of this prodigious photographer and document his aesthetic artwork that once highlighted Egypt’s political, social, and artistic heritage. (The Legend) shall unveil exclusive images for the nation’s beloved Former President/ Gamal Abdel Nasser, displayed for the very first time. On the margins of CPW, (Narrative 3) Expo is set to emphasize Egypt and North Africa’s breathtaking endeavors in the photography world, visually narrating an array of storyboards on the region.

Hand in hand with the Embassy of the Netherlands, the esteemed team of World Press Photo 2022 shall visit Egypt to join the CPW. Olfa Feki’s art gallery “Hard Times” will parade a portfolio of photos reflecting the impact of climate change on earth. America’s photographic documentation guru, Maggie Steber, shall run an engaging workshop as well. Not only that but also The New York Times’ reporter, Mona Boshnaq, will participate in CPW with a selective collection of interesting images. Nelly ElSharkawy, along with Salma Elkashef, shall takeoff with their first solo Exhibitions .

Established in 2012, Photopia is keen on launching Cairo Photo Week (CPW) for the 3rd time in a row to empower amateur and professional photographers in Egypt and the whole region through its’ state-of-the-art photography school.
