Sherouk Farid: Rising Star Model

It is no big secret the fashion arena has been ruled for ages by Euro-denominated and non-inclusive diversity. However, some changes are taking over, with Arab models coming along with original dissimilar criteria to what has already been standardized. In this course of massive movements forward to vanish what has been usual for ages, UNN Model Management went into action. Established in 2018 by Egyptian international model Iman Eldeeb, the agency aims to embrace Arab versatility and develop talents to echo from Egypt to a worldwide audience.

Amongst these emerging talents, a star has been born. We have seen her everywhere – runways, fashion shoots and recent television ads. With her mesmerizing looks and raw talent, Sherouk Farid is shining her way through top-notch models and taking her skills globally to Dubai, Spain, Chile, Peru and many more. We sat down with the beauty sensation for an in-depth talk about her journey so far.

Tell us about yourself.

Well, I’m twenty-four. My dad is Egyptian, and my mom is mixed Greek, Lebanese and Egyptian. I grew up in Alexandria my entire life but moved here to Egypt a couple of years ago to pursue modeling. I had such a huge passion for doing that, which is why I dropped out of college to work full-time.

How did you get into modeling?

Honestly, it was smooth for me; I’ve always been interested in self-expression, arts and fashion. I collaborated with Adel Essam and Henar Sherif on an artistic shoot back when I was still in Alexandria. That was the turning point for me, and shortly after, I started receiving shoots from numerous brands, one of which was for Jude Benhalim – an absolute favorite of mine.

Has your perception of the modeling industry changed over time?

I have been modeling for two years, and a couple of months now, and my perspective has definitely changed over time. When I started modeling, I thought international placement might be impossible for me since my height is 170 cm. However, later on, I was signed by agencies in Spain, South America, London and Dubai. I had this mindset at the beginning where I thought being professional and getting the job done is what mattered the most, only to realize that relationships matter more. I’m talking between you and the team you work with, with the brand or client you work for, between you and your followers on your platform, the type of energy you bring, and all in all, your consistency.

What were the challenges you faced at the beginning of your career?

Modeling in itself is challenging. Every shoot and runway presents a new experience and set of challenges that you face. In one of my first artistic collaborations, not only did I have to touch a snake but I had to put it around my neck and let it crawl over my face. Another one was when I swam in the sea in January in a couture dress. It took me a couple of hours to feel my limbs again. It is also very challenging when you have to change in a crowded street in a local area – it was interesting. There’s also the behind the scenes when dealing with a client or management. Once complications come about on certain things, it usually all comes down to eventually being the model’s fault. Whenever we speak up or make a comment, we are instantly stereotyped as divas. Now that I’m being managed by an agent, things go around differently.

How do you stay both healthy and in shape?

Staying healthy and in shape at all times is tough for everyone, even for models. I was never a fan of sweets or sugar, so that served me very well. Certainly, after modeling, I’m more aware of what enters my body, my sleeping hours and what kind of products I’m using. I have always been rooting for pro-natural products. I try to exercise regularly and minimize fast food intake while creating a comfortable environment surrounding me.

What is your beauty routine?

I start my day with a smile to boost my mood and drink as much water as I can throughout the day. During the day, I use Uriage or Avenè for my face wash and apply Nuxe toner, then I spray thermal water and leave the products to rest. Moisturizing my skin is a must; that’s why I put on Dr. Organic eye cream, and I always remember to put sunscreen on if I am to go out. The same regimen goes for nighttime, but I add Oz Naturals vitamin C serum and some oils now and then before going to bed.

Your current fashion obsession?

Oh, hands down cargo pants. I am always on the go so they suit my personal life and work style.

What do you hope to accomplish as a model?

Just as much as I possibly can. There are so many countries I want to visit and brands I want to model for. I want to keep taking it to the next level till there’s no more left to do.

Which supermodels do you hold admiration for?

Kate Moss, Gigi Hadid and Naomi Campell.

How do you like to spend an off-duty day?

I’m such an extrovert; I used to go out and about all the time. But during these times with so little to do, I chill around with my roommates and my dog, take care of my skin, cook, do some workouts or watch a new movie at night.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself. Any secrets or hidden talents?

Believe it or not, when I was young, I used to wear the biggest glasses you can imagine. I was the nerd of every school I enrolled in.
