Shanghai Disney Celebrates Five Years

By  |

Celebrating a historic five-year milestone, Shanghai Disney Resort first opened its gates in the summer of 2016, and has been bringing magical experiences to families in China ever since. In tribute to its fifth anniversary, the resort presented a special array of activities, including the debut of an in-park theatrical show titled ‘Mickey’s Storybook Adventure’ and a red carpet event.

Later in the evening, a marvelous ceremony featured the resort’s new anniversary theme song ‘What a Beautiful Surprise’ by beloved singer Jane Zhang, in front of the Enchanted Storybook Castle. Co-written by Disney songwriters Jordan Powers, Jason Mater and Tony Ferrari, the new theme song is, of course, as upbeat and buoyant as ever.

Expressing his enthusiasm about this occasion, Bob Chapek, the chief executive officer at The Walt Disney Company, said, “Since opening Shanghai Disney Resort in June 2016, we have been delighted by the enthusiastic response from the millions of people who have visited the park. As we celebrate this milestone, we are incredibly grateful to our outstanding Cast Members who bring the park to life and create unforgettable experiences for our guests, and we look forward to continuing to enhance this extraordinary destination through the magic of our storytelling and innovation in the years ahead.”

In the span of only a few years, Shanghai Disney Resort managed to become among the world’s most popular tourist destinations. It is interesting to note that it was designed to merge two concepts – an authentic Disney experience and elements unique to Chinese culture. If you visit the resort, you will quickly notice Chinese art everywhere you go, along with Chinese qualities incorporated in merchandise, shows, food and beverage, and even attractions.

Bob Iger, the executive chairman at The Walt Disney Company, said, “In building Shanghai Disney Resort, we wanted it to be both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese, and it has been wonderful to see the park embraced by the people of China as it’s quickly become one of the most popular tourist destinations globally. The park represents a tremendous achievement, and we are so proud of the tens of thousands of dedicated and talented people who have worked together to create a place unlike any other in the world.”

So far, the Shanghai Disney Resort has achieved a great impact on the local community and economic development in Shanghai. Not only has it definitely raised the bar for tourism, cultural creativity, accommodation and dining, it is a major employer in the region, with more job opportunities expected to be offered at every level, as the resort expands and takes on more ventures in upcoming years.
