Samra becomes a “First Ascent”

Adventure icon Omar Samra has been making Egyptians proud ever since he was the first Egyptian to climb Earth’s highest mountain – Mount Everest, the 7 Summits, and ski to both the Geographic South and North Pole (The Explorer’s Grand Slam). But his inspiration and achievements haven’t end there.

The inspirational speaker has topped it all off by becoming the first person in history to climb three mountains located at the universe’s coldest and driest continent, Antarctica. In climbing terminology, Samra will be called the ‘first ascent’.

He had the privilege to name all three – Mount Samra (1,790 metres), Mount Teela (at 1,661 metres), Mount Marwa (at 1,729 metres) named after his late wife who passed away after giving birth to their daughter, Teela.

The mountaineer ascended seven mountains in total, of which six were via new routes. He also got the opportunity to name them – one of which he named ‘The Egyptian Direct’.

An art exhibition will take place on February 18 where Samra will give a talk about the 10-day trip, exhibiting the journey’s artistic illustrations, photography and videos.

Guests will have the opportunity to interact and engage through an audio and visual experience, and will also have the opportunity to test out some of Samra’s mountaineering gear.

“Making a first ascent has always been a dream of mine. However, exploration is not just about going to someplace first; it’s about trying to become the best version of ourselves every day of your life. And to do so we need to constantly work hard to explore where our boundaries lie and then push them even further still. It is in these precious moments that we can truly discover what we were born to do”, said Samra.
