Es Devlin’s MasterClass on ‘Turning Ideas Into Art’

The renowned online educational platform, MasterClass, is introducing a brand new class to its rich portfolio, starring Es Devlin teaching on the ‘Turning Ideas Into Art’. Having previously featured icons like Anna Wintour, Gordon Ramsay and Neil Tyson, who are arguably the best – if not top experts at the very least – in their respective fields, we can tell that MasterClass never hits and misses.

If you’re not familiar with her name, Devlin is recognized among the most memorable artists and stage designers we have today, and happens to be the mastermind behind remarkable art and stage sculptures you might have seen while watching global artists, including Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd and U2. With more than two decades of experience under her belt, she has directed the artistic vision of various performances in the worlds of music, theater and visual arts.

On her class subject, Devlin said, “We should be part of a world where we aren’t defined or diminished by narrow labels but can instead continue to grow and learn throughout our careers. In my class, I will help members turn their ideas into something they can hold in their hand and encourage those that might meet a fork in the road and don’t know which path to take to take both, and then take both again.”

Her approach is simple – to empower people to discover “inspiration from within”  and learn how to transform an abstract idea or their “big picture” into something practical and tangible. Interestingly enough, this class is for creatives from all walks of life, and will offer something new for all skill levels.

Beginning with the process of exploring the foundations of what it means to be an artist, the class is designed to take you on a journey of cultivating the roots of your creativity, help you sustain a consequential network of collaborations and equip you with strategies to turn your ideas into reality. Devlin will also be sharing her personal creative processes for using light, sculpture and technology to catch the eye of an audience and tell stories with her art.

Giving his take on this new class, David Rogier, the founder and CEO of MasterClass, said, “From installations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum to set designs for Beyoncé and The Weeknd, Es’s ability to combine music, language and light to connect with audiences is simply magical. She changes how we see things. In her class, she takes members on a behind-the-scenes journey into her creative process, showing them how to combine their curiosity with research to inspire their own art.”
