Empowering Women: Saudi Arabia’s Groundbreaking Move in Umrah and Hajj Accessibility

In a pioneering decision, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has granted all women the opportunity to undertake Umrah and Hajj without the requirement of a mahram (male guardian) since last year, removing previous restrictions on visa issuance. This significant move reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to facilitating the participation of women in these deeply spiritual rituals. Whether the purpose of the journey is religious, touristic, or leisure-oriented, Saudi Arabia has implemented a series of measures aimed at ensuring a seamless, enriching, and safe experience for all visitors, in alignment with the objectives of KSA’s Vision 2030.

These measures include the establishment of the Electronic Tourist Visa system, accessible to citizens from 63 countries, as well as holders of US, UK, and Schengen visas, along with residents of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Transit Visas are provided, allowing for a stay of up to 96 hours. Additionally, travelers booking flights with Saudia Airlines and Flynas are offered one night in a hotel, enabling them to explore the kingdom and partake in Umrah rituals.

Saudi Arabia solidifies its position as a secure and accessible destination, allowing women of all ages to undertake Umrah conveniently. Whether traveling solo or with companions, they have the flexibility to stay in any of the hotels situated near the Haram, and explore the sacred sites in Mecca and Medina. Following their Umrah pilgrimage, women have the chance to discover a variety of entertainment options. Throughout the year, they can participate in various activities and events, as well as enjoy upscale shopping destinations featuring luxurious commercial malls and renowned international brands in close proximity.

Jeddah stands out as a premier shopping destination, boasting the Mall of Arabia, which houses a plethora of international brands, along with Tahlia Street, renowned for exhibiting world-class brands. In Mecca, visitors can explore shopping options at Al Hijaz Mall, Al Diyafa Mall, and City Center Mecca. Delving into Saudi culture, there are enriching events such as the Janadriyah National Festival, showcasing heritage events, the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival celebrating camel-related activities, and the Red Sea International Film Festival, displaying a diverse selection of films from around the globe.
