6 Egyptian Businesses Saving the Environment

By  |

We’ve all probably talked the ‘green’ talk but few of us have really walked it out. Let’s be honest. Nevertheless, it’s encouraging to see more businesses going green these days and more start-ups established as purely green from their inception. It’s time to shift the limelight to the companies that hold these values. Here are 6 Egyptian businesses working to save the environment.

Dawar

Let’s start off the list with the genius street-cleaning app Dawar. Created by Environ-Adapt in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Environment and GIZ Egypt, this application connects you with the authorized companies that collect waste off the streets. All you have to do is simply send a photo of the street garbage and its GPS location. After they are finished cleaning, they will send you a photo of the same spot to confirm that the job is done! Not only is this application aiming for cleaner streets, it also informs you of environmental initiatives near you and sends you news on the progress in your neighborhood so that you can be part of the growing green community.

Greenish

If you haven’t heard about Greenish, it is a green social business devoted to designing and implementing sustainable green solutions to schools, NGOs, retails and restaurants, allowing them to save money, create new revenue streams and attract green-conscious customers. It also provides educational projects to promote the significance of environmental preservation, while teaching the concept of “living greenly” through arts, community-driven events, video content and green lifestyle blogs.

Tagaddod

This pioneering waste management company offers an efficient Used Cooking Oil (UCO) pick up service. Aside from UCO disposal, they provide you with replaceable containers, free shipping and the best price you could get for UCO. If you use their service, you get a scheduled routine pick-up, prompt customer service, a clean process of oil extraction and high quality containers. They also collaborate with hotels and restaurants to create a green marketing plan and increase customer awareness.

Go Clean

This brilliant company aims to increase environmental awareness by including the consumer in the recycling process and rewarding them for their effort to save the environment. It encourages you to first separate plastics, paper and metals. After you contact them, they send someone to weigh and collect your recyclables, which you can then exchange with cash or household products.

Mobikya

Located in the heart of Old Cairo, Mobikya is a green interior design studio and an up-cycle furniture firm. It started with a belief that design can solve global problems by utilizing materials – such as tires – that would normally be disposed of harmfully and instead processing them into a valuable product people will want to keep in their home.

El Nafeza

This foundation introduces eco-friendliness to the fields of contemporary art and development. It actually holds workshops and specialized centers that teach young people the use of recycled papers made from papers and agricultural refuse, especially rice straws, Nile water lilies and bananas stalks. Did we mention they prioritize jobs for marginalized people and mainly women with disabilities? We thought it was worth mentioning.
