Egypt is the homeland of sustainability and art where our ancestors turned every wall, column, and house into lasting artworks that documented their life and teachings. It is with this belief that the World Art Forum for Development Foundation (WAFDF) is proud to announce the launch of the 2nd edition of the World Art Forum (WAFII) at COP 27 in Sharm ElSheikh from the 7th to the 18th of November.
Artist Randa Fouad, president of WAFDF, stated that it was important for the Foundation to join COP 27 to cement the fine arts and soft power role in delivering important and effective messages across different fields; a position that is supported by Egypt as the country of art and culture.
According to Fouad, the Forum will host several panels that bring together artists and development and environmental experts, in addition to organizing a number of workshops for youth and children. The Foundation partnered with the UN, the Egyptian Government, and representatives from the private sector to launch Sustainable Art Day.
WAF II follows after the success of the first Forum that was held last January at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC).
Artist Shereen Badr, co-founder and CEO of Sheranda World Art and secretary-general of WAFDF, asserted that the focus of WAF II will be on cementing the connection between fine art and the environment and climate action. The Forum will display avant-garde sustainable art pieces where natural, non-toxic materials are used, creative artwork is created from recycled materials, and ecological and environmental themes and designs are central.
Badr added that artists from more than 60 countries will be participating in WAF II with a major focus given to youth and children. One of the central themes for the Forum will be youth inclusion to provide them with creative space to express their vision of a clean environment and nurture their creativity to contribute to climate action and the creation of sustainable, green communities and cultures. It is worth mentioning that the event is sponsored by Pepsico and Rosa Flowers.
