It’s that time of year again…for those of us who have to work in the summer, the Eid hiatus we’ve been waiting for is finally right around the corner. If you’re staying in Cairo to enjoy the calm after everyone leaves for vacation, cinema is probably at the top of your agenda. Without further ado, here is a roundup of the Eid films you can look forward to.

Welad Rizk 2: A’wdat Osoud Al-Ard

Three years after the end of the first film’s story, the four brothers try their best to keep the promise they made to themselves that requires them to stay away from the life of theft and crime. One incident occurs and messes up all their efforts to remain clean, forcing them into dangerous situations with a number of professional criminals. Directed by Tarek El-Erian, this drama’s cast includes Ahmed Ezz, Amr Youssef, Ahmed Al-Fishawi, Mohamed Mamdouh, Ahmed Dawood and Nasreen Amin.

Al Kenz 2: Al-Hobb wa Al-Maseer

This sequel carries on with the plot as Hassan sets out searching for the treasure buried in his father’s mansion. The mysterious clues in the ancient papyrus documents are somehow hidden within the stories of Hatshepsut in the Pharaonic era, Mercury Ali in the Ottoman era and his father, Bashir Al-Katatini Head of State Security Investigations Service under the reign of the Khedival dynasty in the 1940s. Directed by Sherif Arafa, this historical film stars Mohamed Ramadan, Mohamed Saad, Hend Sabry, Amina Khalil, Ruby and Ahmed Rizk.

Khayal Maata

The film’s plot takes place in the 1960s and focuses on a decorator called Zizo, who is a paranoid old man, always suspicious of people around him. He narrates his story and his memories as a young man when he meets up with a group of friends he committed theft with 30 years ago. Directed by Khaled Marei, this comedy is starring Ahmed Helmy, Mena Shalaby, Khaled El Sawy, Hassan Hosni, Entisar and Lotfi Labib.

El Tayeb Wel Shares Wel Laoub

Three retired actors suddenly decide that they want to go back to acting and work together to make a film about space aliens. Directed by Ramy Rizkallah, this comedy is starring May Kassab, Mohamed Sallam, Ahmed Fathy, Tarek El Ebiary and Bayyumy Fouad.
