For its second annual edition, the Natural Hair Fest took place at the newly-renovated, now-charming Merryland Park in Heliopolis on Friday April 12th. Founded by the Hair Addict, the festival is essentially a celebration of the movement for ‘natural living’. All day, people were invited to an extensive shopping experience of numerous local and international beauty brands supporting the motto #LessChemicalsIsMore, including Tresemme, Yves Rocher, Seba Med, Alejon, Monteil, Kamena, Saskia, All Green and Go Natural.

More activities included on-field hair salons, style consultations and a program full of entertainment by Hamdoon Percussions, DJ FRK and even a performance by Salalem, the beloved Egyptian Indie Pop band.

Another highlight was all the experts hosted to give natural hair talks and advice. Moderated by curly-haired owner of OPA lounge Pola Salem, the first panel discussion featured Menna Ahmed, Rawan Hesham, Youssra El Gamal, and Yussra Wael discussing how to deal with different hair types using natural and low chemical products. This was later followed by an educative panel where Dr. Dina Khalil and Dr. Riham Labib talked about medical hair dyes and makeup.

After that, style consultant and blogger Mayar Badie took over the mic to talk about how the curly hair method started with founder of Curly World, Lorraine Massey. They discussed the victory in pursuing the curly journey and the struggles you face along the way. Badie also had a Natural Hair Talk with Dr. Noura Hassaballa about decoding your personal hair nutrition.

Good news for all the mothers was that during the whole agenda, Leap had a kids area full of fun-filled activities like face painting, braiding, arts, crafts and painting, so they didn’t have to worry about their children enjoying the day as well. The food sponsors of the event also included Cinnabon and Chipsy Forno.

Given that the Hair Addict movement only started in 2016 as a Facebook group, the community they’ve created in Egypt is rather impressive, and the movement that they’ve championed so well is still snowballing.
