Renowned for her beauty, elegance, and talent, Diane Kruger is certainly much more than just a pretty face.  You’ve definitely spotted her in Troy, where she played Helen, and in National Treasure, filling the shoes of Dr. Abigail Chase.  In this exclusive FLAIR interview, Kruger–the face of Jaeger-LeCoultre since 2007–talks to us about her relationship with the brand, what she thinks of fashion and style, and fills us in on where we’ll be seeing her next!

Y

ou met Jaeger-LeCoultre in 2007.  Who is Jaeger-LeCoultre for you?

They have become part of my close-knit circle of friends and family!

In 2007, I had a movie in the Venice Film Festival and I needed a special piece of jewelry to go with my dress…I saw the Jaeger-LeCoultre Diamond 101 watch and just absolutely fell in love with it…so my relationship with Jaeger-le-Coultre  is very organic. I truly love their watches, they are timeless and elegant. When I went to visit the Manufacture, I was impressed with their experience and knowledge and most importantly precision in watchmaking. It confirmed my admiration!

What type of watches do you prefer: sporty, classical, diamond set? Which one is your favorite?

It depends on the occasion. Right now I love my rose gold Rendez-Vous for day and my diamond 101 for night

You are the face of the new Jaeger-LeCoultre campaign today. What does it mean for you?

It seemed the natural progression of our long relationship…I am very happy with the outcome.

How was the shoot? How would you describe it?

Pretty relaxed and easy…we all knew what we wanted the ads to look like, so there were no surprises.

Did you already work with Craig McDean?

I have known Craig for many years and I was very happy he accepted to shoot me for this.

His images are very modern and cool

An advertising campaign usually tells a story. What was the story behind this campaign? Witch character inspired you?

These ones where more portraits of me …hair and make-up are relaxed and soft. I really look like myself and I hope people will find them relatable and nice

The Rendez-Vous name alone connotes a hint of   sexiness, a clandestine meeting, and elegance. What do you like about the watch?

I think it’s very elegant and sophisticated, yet the roundness makes it young and flirty.

How essential is being on time in your day?

I myself always try to be on time…I find it quiet rude to make someone wait…and I also appreciate it in a man to be on time for a rendezvous or even to be there before me !

Let’s talk about the wonderful world of films! How was Cannes this year?

So fun, but also incredibly exhausting…it`s quiet strange having to comment on your colleagues work. But I did see some beautiful, beautiful films

Tell us about your upcoming movies?

This fall I have my first comedy ‘Un plan parfait’ coming out in France and a Sci-Fi movie called “The Host”. Also, I am starring in a film called “Gree Blade Rises,” which is about the youth of Abraham Lincoln

‘Un plan parfait’ is your very first comedy. What does it mean for you?

It’s nerve wrecking! I hope people will think I’m funny!

How was the shooting of the film? How did you find Kenya?

Kenya is just so beautiful…we saw every kind of animal…I even had a leopard in my shower coming home one night from work…no kidding!

What is your next step? Who you would like to work with in the future?

I hope to continue to work internationally. There are so many people I’d like to work with…the list is really long.

What do you love most about the world of cinema?

The traveling circus aspect of it and the fact that so many people on a film are just there to help you create and make something so many people can enjoy

When it comes to fashion and style, you are known for being incredibly fashion-forward and for making your own style-choices. Can you tell us a little about what you look for in fashion?

Clothes are a direct expression of oneself. I like that…I don’t think I really have style. I try to look most like myself on the red carpet. Couture is a beautiful art form.

What inspires your sense of fashion? Who is your fashion icon?

Movies inspire me and people and designers…I love when a piece of clothing tells a story about me.

You’ve worked with many designers…who are your favorites?  Any special memories you’d like to share?

Chanel, Dior…Jason Wu…Prabal Gurung… so many! Big moments in my life are remembered by a dress…like my very first Premiere or when I hosted the Cannes Film Festival

Describe the ‘Diane’s Kruger Style’. Would you say Jaeger-LeCoultre watches tie into your style?

My style is classic, but always with an edge. I like taking risks and have fun with fashion. I don’t take it seriously.  I love the sophistication and understatement of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches and designs. They are intricate and exquisite. They complement any outfit. They are timeless.

On the fashion side, what is the thing you absolutely cannot live without?

A great, comfortable pair of flats.

When you are not working, what do you enjoy doing most?

I love to travel! I would love to visit every continent and most countries before I start a family.
