Boasting a $12 million global opening at IMAX, Marvel Studios’ latest masterpiece, ‘Black Widow’, brought about the highest grossing opening weekend in eleven markets worldwide  since March 2020. If you’ve watched the film, this news could come as no shock to you. It’s easily one of the best we’ve seen in a while.

On this evident comeback to the entertainment industry, the CEO of IMAX, Rich Gelfond, commented, “The strong results for ‘Black Widow’ confirm that the pandemic is under control. Audiences can’t wait to get back to the movies and The IMAX Experience. Hollywood blockbusters continue to gain ground at the box office with each successive release, and that bodes very well for the many films lined up for exclusive worldwide theatrical release this fall and beyond.”

Also, since the pandemic struck, no other film has grossed close to $7.2 million across IMAX screens in North America, which ‘Black Widow’ did, gaining nine percent of the US box office and a per screen average of $19,000. Worldwide, the film marked opening weekend records in Brazil, Austria, Germany and South Korea. All in all, the IMAX global network earned $14.5 million in box office grosses for that weekend.

Starring the gorgeous Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Rachel Weisz, the film is directed by Cate Shortland, who, in our opinion, did a marvel-ous job (sorry, not sorry). ‘Black Widow’ happens to be the first movie in phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the newest Marvel Studios theatrical release since 2019. While we’d love to drop some spoilers, we thought it best to wait for everyone to watch it before we attempt to review this masterpiece.

Exclusively in IMAX, ‘Black Widow’ features twenty two minutes of specially selected scenes in expanded aspect ratio. If you’re an intense Marvel fan and you’re looking for the most engaging cinema experience, you should know that various scenes were specifically formatted for IMAX theaters, providing you the opportunity to watch ‘Black Widow’ on a large screen at 1.90:1 aspect ratio, which actually shows you 26% more of the onscreen image.
