Sheraton Cairo Hotel & Casino Tackles Food Waste by Partnering with Food Banking Regional Network & Egypt Food Bank

The iconic Sheraton Cairo Hotel & Casino is taking a great step towards sustainability by partnering with Food Banking Regional Network & Egypt Food Bank, a regional & leading non-profit organization dedicated to fighting hunger. This exciting collaboration aims to significantly reduce food waste within the hotel, ensuring surplus food reaches those in need.


“As part of the legendary Marriott International’s serve 360 program, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact and maximizing our positive social contribution,” stated Ashraf Michel, General Manager of Sheraton Cairo Hotel & Casino. “This partnership with both Food Banking Regional Network & Egypt Food Bank allows us to address the vital issue of food waste while supporting vulnerable communities.”

The initiative focuses on implementing best practices throughout the hotel’s kitchen and food service operations. Measures include:

  • Training staff on proper food storage and portioning: By optimizing preparation and service practices, Sheraton Cairo aims to significantly decrease the amount of food discarded.
  • Donating surplus edible food to Egypt Food Bank: Through a structured collection process, the hotel will regularly donate unused but perfectly safe food to the organization, which will redistribute it to those experiencing food insecurity.
  • Raising awareness among guests: Sheraton Cairo will implement engaging communication strategies to educate guests about the partnership and the importance of food waste reduction.
