Don Tanani, a distinguished Egyptian design brand, is set to make waves in the design scene with its latest collection, Moruna.

Living In Interiors, a leading showroom in the heart of Giza at Abu Rawash, was thrilled to showcase this exquisite collection by Don Tanani on June 6th. The Moruna collection is the first open edition collection to be released by Don Tanani and its first collection to be released in Egypt. Inspired by the exclusive Ouroboros bench, a remarkable centerpiece from Don Tanani’s debut Duality collection masterfully crafted by Lina Alorabi in 2021, this captivating collection represents a pivotal milestone in the brand’s journey. It showcases the evolution of Don Tanani’s research and development endeavors, as well as the designer’s transition from conceptual ingenuity to the creation of commercially viable products.

Inspired by the concept of flexibility (“مرونة” in Arabic), the collection takes its name from the Arabic word, representing the deconstruction and reconstruction of the iconic Ouroboros bench. The undulating curves and solid hand-carved wood of the bench were transformed into a versatile range of seating options that seamlessly blend into any space. Moruna is a fascinating exploration of flexibility, rebirth, and the merging of indoor and outdoor spaces. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Ouroboros symbol, which represents the eternal cycle of life and regeneration, the collection reimagined the ouroboros bench as a versatile range of furniture for both indoor and outdoor applications.

The Don Tanani exhibition offered a captivating and enchanting journey that began the moment guests crossed the threshold of the grandiose doors. As they entered the immersive sea of mesmerizing blue hues, their gaze was irresistibly drawn to the centerpiece of the space—the awe-inspiring ‘Ouroboros Temple’. This captivating installation stood as a testament to the ancient Egyptian symbol of regeneration, with the bench gracefully placed within its own built cylinder, exuding an aura of profound significance. The surrounding walls showcased mesmerizing deconstructed figures from the Ouroboros bench, strategically positioned to invite guests to immerse themselves in the space and embark on a journey of exploration. This artistic display not only created an engaging and interactive experience but also served as a testament to the power of deconstruction. By revisiting and deconstructing the iconic Ouroboros bench, a fresh perspective emerged, giving rise to a captivating new interpretation. Transitioning further into the event, guests found themselves in the serene ambiance of the ‘Palm Court’. Here, the ‘Moruna’ collection took center stage, featuring the iconic ‘C’ chair amidst a twilight setting adorned with lush greenery. The carefully selected music and ambient sounds of birds chirping created a unique atmosphere, truly immersing visitors in the intended outdoor setting. The ambiance was enriched by the captivating melodies of old Egyptian music, infusing the atmosphere with the essence of Egypt’s rich heritage.

The next room showcased the collection’s versatility by dividing the space into dedicated outdoor and indoor areas. Don Tanani’s commitment to quality and design excellence was evident in their choice of striped fabrics perfectly complemented the Moruna collection, while reminiscing the striped textiles found on feluccas to evoke the spirit of the Nile and the textures of the Egyptian desert, embracing a return to the slow life along the river. Afterward, guests were transported into The Color Room, where the immersive environment enveloped them in a mesmerizing display of Don Tanani’s signature orange hue. It housed an extended version of the Ouroboros bench, a remarkable piece that had previously been exhibited in New York, showcasing the bench’s unique construction technique. Crafted from solid teak material, its striking presence resonated throughout the entire exhibition, harmoniously complementing the collection’s captivating aesthetic. Lastly, the ‘Mirror Alcove’ room engaged visitors with the conversation chair and the reflective power of mirrors. Sitting and conversing in front of the mirror, guests discovered that their reflection was intertwined with the person sitting next to them, adding a profound storytelling element to the chair’s significance.

Don Tanani’s’Moruna’ collection challenged the luxury furniture in Egypt by offering meticulously designed pieces for modern lifestyles. Don Tanani continues its mission to elevate Egyptian design, and the Moruna collection is a testament to their unwavering commitment to excellence.
