Azza Fahmy Introduces the “Kirdan”, A New Exclusive Collection

Azza Fahmy debuts “Kirdan,” a breathtaking exclusive collection rooted in heritage and culture

Azza Fahmy reimagines traditional Egyptian jewellery to transport you across time and to humble beginnings. Combining elegant Victorian silhouettes with traditional Fallahy jewellery worn by ladies from the countryside and known as the “kirdan”, Azza Fahmy introduces three necklaces and two pairs of earrings. This exclusive collection is meticulously handcrafted from 18kt gold and filigree wirework and decorated with precious stones set in the Ottoman technique.

The Kirdan, which is worn around the neck with multi-layered units hung over the chest, became prevalent during the 1930s in Egypt’s western desert. Referred to as peasant jewellery, the Kirdan is treasured by Egypt’s Fallahy women. This collection pays homage to rural tradition while modernizing it to produce wearable art in 18kt gold adorned with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires.

The Fallahy crescent Kirdan is among the most unique, the crescent serving as an amulet to ward off bad spirits and increase fertility. Azza Fahmy used the popular lunar form to create this collection, with each piece featuring a crescent variety. With intricate details and motifs distinctive to Azza Fahmy, such as the usage of filigree crescents, flowers, and the new edition of hearts, this collection captures the spirit and fluid movement of Fallahy jewellery.

Azza Fahmy reinterprets the Kirdan in this collection through five pieces: the Nafisa, Haneya, and Aziza necklaces, as well as the Mabrouka and Ghalia earrings, each called after a traditional Fallahy name, celebrating and admiring the women who play such vital roles in our culture.

Available now in all local Azza Fahmy boutiques.
