MSD Egypt, the innovative and leading global healthcare and pharmaceutical company, signed a cooperation agreement with Baheya Foundation, that prolongs over one year, to consolidate a number of awareness courses and workshops that aim at developing the capabilities of the foundation’s medical staff, in terms of early detection and treatment for breast cancer with the the most recent and up-to-date methods and provide necessary psychological support to cancer fighters.
This comes in line with MSD Egypt’s social responsibilities demonstrated by participating in the provision of continuous medical training for workers in charitable organizations. Baheya Foundation is one of first and foremost organizations that provide Egyptian women with free high-quality healthcare services that match MSD Egypt’s strategies and beliefs.
The cooperation agreement was signed at the new headquarters of Baheya Foundation, by Dr. Hazem AbdelSamie, Managing Director of MSD Egypt cluster (Egypt, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen), and Dr. Gilan Ahmed, CEO of Baheya Foundation, in the presence of a number of Company leaders and officials of the institution.
“We, at MSD Egypt, are keen to provide the right support and assistance to cancer patients in Egypt, especially those fighting breast cancer. Taking into consideration that it is the most common type of cancer among women, accounting for 28% of the total cancer cases in the world. Therefore, we continuously strive to cooperate with all concerned parties, whether by organizing awareness campaigns to urge women to early detection and discovery of the disease in its initial stages or by providing the latest treatment medication to patients of such cancers. This contributes to increasing recovery rates,” said Dr. Hazem AbdelSamie, Managing Director of MSD Egypt cluster. “MSD Egypt is proud to cooperate with Baheya Foundation, for it plays such a major and influential role in providing a bundle of early detection services to many Egyptian women, in order to improve the levels of recovery. Furthermore, Baheya foundation offers free treatment to hundreds of cancer fighters on an annual basis in Egypt, and MSD Egypt is dedicated to provide courses managed by senior consultants to the medical staff of the Foundation to present the latest treatment methods and at the mean time provide the proper psychological support, whether for current fighters or previous patients recovering from cancer.”

This cooperation comes amid the countdown to the first phase opening of Baheya’s Sheikh Zayed Hospital. The building consists of 8 floors, where 5 floors are above the ground and 3 floors underground. All services provided in Baheya Al-Haram Hospital will also be provided in Baheya’s Sheikh Zayed Hospital, in addition to 4 operating rooms, rooms for recovery and post-operative care, and approximately 40 beds, serving 500,000 women annually to completely eliminate the waiting lists.
According to the collaboration protocol, MSD Egypt will prepare training courses, programs, and workshops for the medical staff at Baheya Foundation covering several sectors, including drug economics and health technology evaluation, in order to prepare appropriate treatment protocols for each case in specific. In addition to supporting communication activities for increasing community awareness through events, media campaigns, and awareness campaigns on the social media platforms of Baheya Foundation and MSD Egypt.
MSD Egypt plays a key role in providing health care to cancer patients around the world, through the production of new generations of immunotherapy drugs that stimulate the body’s immune system to eradicate cancer. These drugs are not only used in cancer treatment, but they also contribute to alleviating the severity of chemotherapy and reducing the side effects accompanying to it.
