Siemens Healthineers, the global leader in medical services technology, recently formally announced Amro Kandil as the new Managing Director of Egypt, Sudan, Djibouti, Eretria, and Libya. Kandil takes over the role held by Michael Schmermer for the past 5 years.

The formal announcement was made during a Farewell/Welcome event in honor of Michael Schmermer and Amro Kandil that included an audience comprised of government officials, partners, customers, and Siemens Healthineers senior management. The event also witnessed the presence of General Dr. Bahaa El-Din Zidan, Head of The Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement “UPA”, and Alexis Below, Head of Economic Department, German Embassy Cairo and representative to the German Embassy in Cairo.
“During my time as Managing Director, it has become even more clear to me that the healthcare sector is changing and Siemens Healthineers is at the epicenter of that transformation process in the region and the continent, with Egypt as the hub,” said Michael Schmermer, former Managing Director of Siemens Healthineers, Egypt, Sudan, Djibouti, Eretria, and Libya. “As this phase of my journey comes to an end, I know Amro is committed to building on the strong foundation of the success we’ve created.”
Amro Kandil has more than 20 years of diverse experience in leading high performing cross-functional teams across the United States, the Middle East, and Africa. He has extensive practice in regional leadership and business management roles. Prior to his current role, he was VP and Country Cluster Head MENA for Ecolab in Dubai, UAE, following 12 years with GE Healthcare in Cairo, Egypt where he ascended to Region General Manager, Northeast Africa for GE Healthcare. Prior to his work with GE Healthcare, he worked for Consumers Energy as a Project Manager in Michigan in the US, then moved to GE Energy as a Project Manager based in Louisville, Kentucky.
