Philippe Peguilhan, Country Manager, Majid Al Futtaim Retail in Egypt, commented: “Carrefour is thrilled be joining forces with Egypt’s Ministry of Environment to put our pledge towards a plastic-free future into action – building on our relentless efforts to ensure a healthier, greener world for future generations. As part of Majid Al Futtaim, we aim to phase out all plastic bags across our operations by the end of 2025. This milestone will allow us to truly embrace sustainability as the core of our strategy and cement our position as a key player in the creation of a circular economy for Egypt.”
Carrefour will begin implementing, and actioning, its commitment towards completely removing single-use plastic bags from its stores – replacing them with reusable eco-friendly options at no additional cost. This initiative will kick off on November 6, and will run until November 18, in conjunction with COP27. Carrefour is also working in direct alignment with Egypt’s Sustainability Vision for 2030, advancing the country’s roadmap towards efficiently utilising resources to secure the rights of future generations and foster more opportunities for all.
