Under the auspices of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Somabay Hosts Egyptian Amateur Golf Tournament
Egypt’s leading tourism investment company and Real Estate Developer, Abu Soma Touristic Development Company (ASDC), owner of Somabay, hosted for the first time the historic Egyptian Amateur Golf Tournament from June 28th till July 3rd, which has been running for 101 years, held annually with the participation of the best golfers in Egypt, and across the Middle East and the Mediterranean.
Aiming to promote and support Egypt’s golf reach internationally – and with more than 60 participants from 18 countries – the Egyptian Golf Federation invited some of the top amateur players in the region and worldwide to get the opportunity to be crowned the Egyptian Amateur Open Champion. The tournament has witnessed some special winners in its 101-year history. There was a prominent attendance of the serial champion Amr Abou El Ela who successfully won the tournament 19 times, along with Egypt’s Ramy Taher and Amr Mahfouz who made it on several occasions.
In addition, more recent winners participated in the tournament, including Abdelmonem El Shefie and current Tunisian champion, Amine Benelhadj Naceur defending their titles at Somabay; whereas, ending the tournament with a special Gala Dinner as well as the prize-giving held in a unique celebration.
“Somabay is thrilled to be home to one of the world’s sports enthusiasts, with breathtaking views of the Red Sea shoreline. Somabay has grown into an elite golf destination for golfers looking for a new golf destination with a cutting edge due to the premium quality of the golf course and its playing surfaces, as well as continual facility renovations. In terms of nature and beauty, Somabay certainly provides a one-of-a-kind experience for everyone.” Ibrahim El-Missiri, CEO of Abu Soma Touristic Development Company, said.
In the same context, El-Missiri added: “Somabay’s strategy thrives on our strong commitment to have continuous developments and investments in our golf facilities to maintain our top tier experience for our golfers. I am pleased to say that our latest progress includes a new par 3 course and a second course designed by Tim Lobb of Lobb & Partners. A new world-class 5,000 m² short game facility, magnificently designed by James Edwards of EDI, is also witnessing a new development phase. We are excited to exhibit off those incredible accomplishments, to a larger and more diverse audience.”
