This brand, founded by two of the most innovative female designers, seeks to deliver Syria’s great heritage through a contemporary, refined depiction of Damascene artisan through combining art and fashion. Each of their one-of-a-kind handcrafted items has a piece of gorgeous Damascus, allowing us to carry it anywhere we go. French textile and beech wood straps engraved with monochrome mother of pearl are used to create these amazing bags. Either Latin or Arabic symbols, as well as innovative patterns, are inscribed.

When did you start this brand?
This brand was established in 2014 as a continuity of my work in home furniture and home accessories inspired by mixing traditional and heritage Syrian materials with what suits the time. It’s a creation by both Rania Ouais and me.
Your bags are extremely unique; can you recite the story behind their creation and origin?
We use traditional materials that are difficult to replicate since fashion has become repetitive. To distinguish those who carry our bag, we started by choosing the preferred city, then moved to the name and then to the initials. We used solid materials such as wood, shells, and copper.

What does Les Bois De Perle stand for? And what sets you apart from other handbag brands?
They are the pearl forests because we use wood in bags and the shells from which pearls come out, as the name was extracted from them. What distinguishes us from other brands in the limited quantity and the different handcraft from the work of machines.

Why did you decide to create your handbags to be handcrafted with artisan wood?
Since we started in 2000 with furniture, our relationship has become intimate with the materials as well as with the arts used, especially calligraphy. Hence, there is an impeccable complete harmony with everything that contributes to making the bag.

Where did you drive the inspiration from to create Les Bois De Perle?
The relationship with travel and fashion is accompanied by the passion-driven for color and mixing vintage materials. Not to mention, the exquisite fusion of art and fashion is what brought us to our brand as we know it now.
How do you decide on each seasons’ designs and collection? Can you walk us through the process of creation?
We choose colors according to the global fashion market, we – the two partners – meet and decide the occasion, then we choose effective and general phrases. There is a long process that takes place after we choose the details of the product, and it intervenes in every bag of plans, the carpenter, the drill, the seashell, the tailor, and the sprayer.
Where do you produce your handbags?
We have our workshop, which was established in 2000 and continued despite all the circumstances that Syria has been through. It is located in the old city of Damascus.

Why is a personal touch so important to women when shopping and how can you achieve this within every collection?
Discrimination in choosing the piece is what makes the woman feel that she is different and has made something similar and that is why women like to buy our product.
What is in the future for Les Bois De Perle? Do you have any collections for this Winter?
We are now in a period of preparation for the spring of 2022, and we are looking forward in the future to being in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Milan.

For what occasions does a woman break out her most exclusive piece of your collection.
We have the daily bag, the ‘Tote’, and we have the ‘Classic’, which was worn by many personalities on official occasions.
Out of all your designs, which are your favorites to carry?
For my partner Rania, it is the Classic Wood, as for me, it is the Candy bag.

In your opinion, what is the most timeless piece a woman can purchase from Les Bois De Perle?
The Arabesque is a distinctive and difficult piece to manufacture, as it contains about 800 pieces of seashells and its drawing is classic and suitable for every time. It is a very special bag, to say the least.
