MARAKEZ Supports Egypt’s First-Ever Fashion Industry Delegation to MQ Vienna Fashion Week organized by Pashion and the Egyptian Fashion & Design Council
Cairo, Egypt: November 14, 2021 – MARAKEZ, a leading mixed-use real estate developer in Egypt, has supported Egypt’s first-ever fashion industry delegation to MQ Vienna Fashion Week. Ten hand-chosen Egyptian fashion, accessory, and jewelry designers presented their collections to Austrian and international media and buyers at the event in Vienna
“Mall of Arabia is the heart and soul of the community it serves and we are keen to support local Egyptian talent on an international scale,” said Basil Ramzy, CEO of MARAKEZ. “In addition to supporting the talent in the local fashion industry, we support Egyptian talent in sports with our recent sponsorship of Egyptian Olympians in Tokyo, but we also support local talent by providing thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities across the country. At MARAKEZ, we believe in the power of innovation and the strength of ingenuity, and we look forward to following the careers of these talented Egyptian fashion industry delegations.”
The fashion delegation included talents across four categories: Eveningwear: Maison Saedi; Accessories: Aliel, Jiji Collection, George Sara, Sabry Marouf, and Zaam; Jewelry: Huwa, Mimzo, and NourZen; and Sustainable Fashion: Scarabaeus Sacer. Following MQ Vienna Fashion Week, select items from the designers’’ collections were displayed during the Mall of Arabia Winter Style Avenue Fashion Show.
This is the first time Egyptian fashion designers are participating in MQ Vienna Fashion Week and it is only the third time a group of designers representing Egypt is participating in an international fashion week. The participation and designers were curated and chosen by Susan Sabet, publisher of Pashion magazine and founding board member of the Egyptian Fashion & Design Council, based on their collections’ creative appeal to the Austrian and international market, attractive pricing, and production capabilities to fulfill potential orders.
MARAKEZ has been a long-time, proud supporter of the Egyptian fashion industry partnering up with the Azab Sisters to host the Style Avenue event at Mall of Arabia for 3 consecutive days with over 70 Regional designers. MARAKEZ has previously partnered with Alashanek ya Balady Association for Sustainable Development, a local non-governmental organization (NGO), to support their mission and provide them with a booth at Mall of Arabia to sell products handmade by women the organization trained through their programs.
In addition, MARAKEZ has provided ongoing support to Tawasol, a local NGO that combines education with vocational training and health services to serve the low-income communities in three of Cairo’s informal slum areas. Tawasol Egypt’s products are made by low-income families living in slum areas and informal settlements in Cairo. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their products are given back to the communities that made them, either as artisans’ wages or to help sustain community development projects.
