As we finally move on from July, the absolute pinnacle month of summer heat, you may begin to notice a few changes to your skin from the amount of sun you got exposed to. For some of us, that could include breakouts and pigmentation, while others experience dry, dehydrated skin. If you’ve been keeping up with a daily skincare routine, it probably served you well, although we’re here to present a few more steps that will revive your skin, and we assure you, can be taken to the bank.

Among the most sought-out facialists we have today, Naomi Bell is the owner of NRBeauty salon in Dubai, and here she lays out her guide to maintaining healthy skin during warmer weather and reversing the damaging impact of excess summer heat on your skin.

1. Hydration

To begin with, you should aim to drink no less than ten glasses of water every day! Not only does this prevent dehydration and maintain the moisture balance of your skin, water also helps to detoxify your body on a regular basis. To ensure your skin gets a little extra hydration, you can also keep a rosewater mist in your bag wherever you go and spritz on your face when needed.

2. Sun Protection

If you happen to go out without a hint of SPF on your face, consider that “an open invitation to the sun to invade your skin! UV rays are harmful especially in summer. Keep your skin protected with a minimum protection of SPF30 and apply it generously every couple of hours.”

3. Exfoliation

“The heat and dust make pimples a very common problem throughout the summer and leave us with breakouts. Exfoliation also helps to remove dull and dead skin, adding an enzymatic exfoliator once a week into your skincare regime at home will do wonders to your skin,” Naomi adds.

4. Cut down on makeup

Minimize your makeup routines as much as possible during summer! The only makeup product actually recommended is a hydrating lip balm to keep your lips hydrated. If you like, you may even use your lip balm as a cheek stain and even a bit of eyeshadow for a fresh, glowy look.

5. Change moisturiser

And Naomi concludes with this final step – “The reality is you need to now switch over to a lightweight and non-greasy moisturizer and you need to make up for the loss of moisture in the skin. As your oily winter lotions are not going to help during the summer times as when seasons change so does our skin!”
