For a riveting fourth episode, ‘Coach Conversations’ featured the Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and entrepreneur Ciara alongside the beloved actress, author and founder of Goop Gwyneth Paltrow. If this is your first time hearing about this show, it is a monthly Youtube series that invites celebrity guests to engage in heart-to-heart conversations about culture, community and creativity.
This month, the topic of discussion was about the value of remaining present in the moment, being grateful for mothers and the challenges of parenting in the midst of a pandemic. With the title “Modern Motherhood,” the episode was released just in time to celebrate the American Mother’s Day.
Paltrow has a daughter Apple, 16, and a son Moses, 15, from Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay. Meanwhile, Ciara has a son Future, 6, a daughter Sienna, 3, and a 9-month-old baby boy Win.
After having suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her second child in 2006, Paltrow shared in the episode, “I think as mothers, we have to really be careful not to judge other mothers in their process and in their decisions, and we have to be supportive of each other. It’s so important to understand that all moms are doing their best.”
It was also quite interesting when Ciara and Paltrow opened up about the qualities they inherited from their mothers, and talked about their support systems, how they juggle different hats in their lives and the people they rely on the most.
Ciara, who actually gave birth last July during the pandemic, shared very encouraging words. “I want every mom out there to know that she’s not alone in the midst of the chaos. Even the things that seem abnormal or crazy: this is life, right? And the moment we can embrace that, we can go, ‘Okay, I’m ready, I got this.’ Because you really do have it.”
As they talked about acting roles yet to be pursued, Paltrow said she would like to do a play on Broadway and Ciara mentioned wanting to be part of an action movie. “That would be a dream come true for me. I’d love to get real bossy, tear up some stuff and save some people.” On their favorite affirmations, Paltrow answered – “To thine own self be true.” And Ciara said, “If you believe anything is possible, all it takes is you. That’s what I would say.”
