At nineteen, a stunning Egyptian model caught our attention by upping the marketing appeal for luxury brands like Kojak, Okhtein and Farah Seif, among others. We are talking about none other than Malak Waleed, who began her modeling career at only seventeen. You can tell it takes quite the commitment to achieve that much in little time, let alone at a young age, but she has gone and done it. We caught up with her to learn more about her story.
Tell us more about yourself. How did you begin your career as a model?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always enjoyed taking a lot of pictures, so one day, I asked myself, why not do this for a living? After discovering modeling as my passion, I began my career when I was recruited by the UNN Modeling agency at the age of seventeen.
Walk us through your typical work day.
I usually start the day by making a cup of coffee, putting on simple makeup and getting dressed. Then I head to the location I’m shooting at. What I love most about days like these is how I can be whoever I want in front of the camera and no one can judge me for it. I also love getting to connect and work with a lot of new people with different mindsets and learn from them. It’s very interesting.
Are there any challenges you’ve learned to overcome?
Definitely! I overcame a lot. Sometimes people can be a little mean in this industry but I learned to push through because I had to be professional. I also learned how to manage my time, which was actually the hardest thing for me, since I have to manage the balance between university classes, shoots, crossfit training and a social life all at once.
Do you have any on-the-go beauty tips that tend to save the day?
For me, it is crucial to always have bronzer and lipstick on, whenever wherever I’m going.
Your Instagram looks like a Pinterest board. What inspires your everyday looks?
I would say, a lot of experience shooting for great brands helped me develop my own style and I also get inspiration from some influencers on social media and models like Gigi Hadid and Winnie Harlow.
Among all the shoots you were a part of, which is your absolute favorite?
Merna Rady and Farah Seif definitely stood out to me because they are both very smooth hard workers; and that really inspried me and made me feel like I really wanted to show them what I got and give them the content they’re looking for. This motivational aspect made the experience of working with them even more fun than I expected.
How did it feel modeling for Kojak and Okhtein?
It felt like I was flying. Modeling for such huge and amazing brands is such a pleasure, and I’m beyond grateful to be part of it.
