‘Dancing with the Devil’ is a four-part YouTube original docuseries, in which Demi Lovato shares deeply and in-detail about her near-fatal overdose in 2018. Lovato wanted to “set the record straight” about the incident because “a lot of stories were going around at that time” which weren’t, in fact, true.
In the documentary, Lovato gets real, telling her story about struggling with mental health and addiction. Ever since the incident, Demi had never addressed it as personally as she is now. Snippets from the trailers reveal that the popstar still deals with the consequences. “I was left with brain damage, and I still deal with the effects of that today. I don’t drive a car because there are blind spots in my vision. I also, for a long time, had a really hard time reading.” Despite her tough experience, Demi feels more grateful than ever. “I feel like they kind of are still there to remind me of what could happen if I ever get into a dark place again. I’m grateful for those reminders, but also I’m so grateful that I was someone who didn’t have to do a lot of rehabbing. The rehabbing came on the emotional side and the therapeutic side, internally. I did a lot of work after that — just not physically.”
According to YouTube, ‘Dancing with the Devil’, which premieres on March 23rd, is “an intimate portrait of addiction” and “the process of healing and empowerment.” Regarding her vision, Lovato said, “I just [want] to tell the world, ‘Hey, this is what happened, this is how I got through it, and hopefully this can help you too’ because this journey has been such a wild ride. But I’ve learned so much, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.”
