When it comes to comedy, fans go wild defending their favorite show. And one of the strongest fan-bases we’ve ever seen in Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s. Sadly, NBC announced the end of the show again after its eighth season. Bad news for the fans who find it hard to say goodbye to one of the most iconic shows ever.

The series will finish its broadcast run with 153 episodes and it was also aired over two networks, Fox and then NBC. In 2018 at Fox, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was sadly yet famously canceled after five seasons but NBC came to the rescue and revived it the same year for the sixth season. “I still remember the palpable excitement that night in 2018 when we announced ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ would be returning to its rightful home at NBC,” said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBC Universal Television and Streaming.

“We’ve always loved these characters and the way they make us laugh while also masterfully weaving in storylines that make us reflect as well. A big thank you to our wonderful partners – Dan Goor, the writers, producers, and the incredibly talented cast and crew – for a comedy whose legacy will stand the test of time.” The series is based on wacky incidents inside a police station in Brooklyn, starring Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller.

“‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ has been one of the jewels in our comedy crown,” said Pearlena Igbokwe, chairman of Universal Studio Group. The show’s season 7 received a rating of 5.1 for adults between 18-49. Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been a fan favorite for quite some time, with 9.5 million viewers. Following its success in 2014, the show won the Golden Globe for best comedy series, Andy Sandberg also won the best actor in a comedy while Braugher received four Emmy Awards nominations for his role on the show.

However, in recent past years, the show has also come under criticism. Just as several police-focused TV shows, it has been criticized for its sympathetic depiction of law enforcement as well as not discussing vital issues, like police brutality and racism effectively, especially in the wake of the death of George Floyd last year. Accordingly, last June, the cast and crew declared that $100,000 would be donated to the National Bail Fund Network. Previously, the cast and the producers of the show have also stated that such issues will be tackled in Season 8.

In 2019, the show’s renewal for an eighth season was announced but like everything else in life, the pandemic stepped in and thwarted the production. As a result, season 8 will air as a part of the 2021-2022 season. It is known that season 8 will consist of 10 episodes only. However, the series will have a well-deserved finale for the characters, the fans, and the story. “I’m so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing us to give these characters and our fans the ending they deserve,” said executive producer Dan Goor. “When Mike Schur and I first pitched the pilot episode to Andy, he said, ‘I’m in, but I think the only way to tell this story is over exactly 153 episodes,’ which was crazy because that was exactly the number Mike and I had envisioned.

I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with this amazing cast and crew for eight seasons. They are not only among the most talented people in the business, they are all good human beings who have become a family. But most of all, I feel lucky that we have had the best fans in the world. Fans who saved us from cancellation., and fans who fill us with joy. Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honor the characters, the story, and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long.”

Filled with mixed emotions about this announcement, we are left with nothing but happy memories, and while waiting for the eighth season eagerly, we will take you on a walk down the memory lane and recall some of the most iconic moments on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’:
