It’s been a rough year and some of us are tired of taking new risks and having to face failure at the end of the tunnel. When it comes to relationship choices, many of us have opted for retreating into comfort zone bubbles, where no one can touch us or affect us. While anyone would need a phase like that after a tough breakup, it’s just that – a temporary phase. We can’t live in it forever. So, for those who were hurt by breakups or merely tensions in the past year, we want to encourage you to start opening up again. And it doesn’t have to be a ‘rip-off the bandaid’ type situation but we’re talking more about a gradual process.

This new year is full of wonder and endless possibilities. It would be sad to let fear kind of dictate your next season. We all know, it simply gets you nowhere. Start by reminding yourself of who you are and what you’re looking for in a relationship. What do you envision in your future? Gentleness? Kindness? Generosity? Whatever it is, you need to be on the lookout for someone who embodies the qualities and values you want to make room for and cultivate in your life. Take it slow, bit by bit. Go for coffee first and get to know the other person before you jump in with your whole heart. Let them earn your trust before you commit to anything.

While there is always a chance to crash and burn – we won’t lie to you – if you already have an idea of what you want and what you stand for, you will be much better at figuring out who to draw closer to and who to turn down and keep at a distance. Finally, we want to encourage you not to be so scared of trying something new and later needing to break up. So what if you fail? It’s better than depriving yourself of deep connection. And what if you don’t? It will be all worth it.
