We’ve all had a rough go of it last year – there’s no question about that. Some of us definitely more than others. On the other side of the coin, we definitely grew so much and had our emotional capacity expanded, as we learned more about our weaknesses and limitations. While that might sound a bit sad, I actually found it to be a valuable step in personal growth. Here are some lessons learned from 2020.

1. Meditate on the good memories and don’t allow them to be overshadowed by the bad ones. Remaining grateful is key to being happy.

2. Always look for light in the midst of darkness. There could be bad news constantly being announced on tv or over social media, and while we want to be in touch and aware, we can still choose to focus more on the good news happening around us everyday. And yes, they still exist.

4. Lean on friends and family when you need help. It’s good to be vulnerable because it allows people to be there for you. We don’t have to pretend to have everything together because we know that no one does at this point.

5. Make sure to take a ‘mental vacation’ every week. Allow yourself the time to decompress from the everyday buzz and other times to process any pain you’ve been carrying. The ability to manage your thoughts and choose what to keep and what to discard is such a strength, especially in the day and age we live in.
