A Taste of Texas in Cairo

If you weren’t able to travel this holiday season don’t worry because the 01 Mall in New Cairo is serving up some seriously authentic BBQ. Rather than booking a flight to Dallas, you can indulge in your favorite smoked meats at Longhorn Texas BBQ—the first commercial restaurant of its kind in the MENA region. We were invited to the soft-opening and have been recovering from our food coma ever since. If you love food then you better pack your (figurative) bags and head to Longhorn as soon as possible.

Hot Gossip

If you know Cairo food then you know Fuego Sushi. With five locations around town, this sushi spot has been a go-to since 2008. Fast forward to 2020 and the restaurateur behind Fuego, Tamer Amer, wanted to bring his love of BBQ to his native Cairo. Living in Texas for many years, Amer was missing high-quality BBQ and wanted to bring his beloved smoked American foods to Cairo. So, like any entrepreneur, the idea to create a unique BBQ-style restaurant in Egypt was born.

What to Expect?

This authentic Texas restaurant has been almost a year in the making but delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the opening by a few months. Not only did Amer and his team pull out all of the stops when planning the menu they also spared no expense in creating a one-of-a-kind restaurant space. Antique furnishings flown in from Texas give Longhorn Texas BBQ an original and unique feel. Reclaimed wood panels, eclectic decorations, antique photos; Longhorn is a wall-to-wall ode to the love of BBQ.

A Haven for Foodies

Smoking is a complicated process that is a true labor of love. A 16 hour cook time including 12 hours of smoking and 4 hours of resting means that each menu option has been slow-cooked to perfection. In order to keep up with demand, the custom-made smokers named ‘Pancho’ and ‘Lefty’ have been imported from Camelbak Smokers in the United States. If it’s not impressive enough that they have their own names, ‘Pancho’ and ‘Lefty’ are custom made and some of the biggest commercial smokers to exist on the market—1,000 gallons to be exact. If you can’t get enough of Longhorn don’t worry, you can grab some retail goodies like BBQ sauce, beef jerky, and desserts on the way out!
