Scents of the Season: Winter Edition

Winter is upon us and having a new perfume, or two, in your arsenal is a great way to add to your wardrobe this season. The amazing thing about fragrances is that they differ based on individual body chemistry. Each bottle is unique because the same perfume might smell completely different from person to person.

Perfume connoisseurs know that choosing a perfume is beautifully intimate. When choosing a new scent remember that top, base and medium notes will all present differently over time; don’t sleep on a new fragrance just because of one ingredient. Top notes are light scents that you typically smell first. Base notes are usually stronger with a bold feel that lingers after application. Medium notes are the notes that bring everything together. Knowing the notes and how they develop is a great guide, but don’t be afraid to shake things up this holiday season.

ByredoTobacco Mandarin

Byredo founder Ben Gorham launched the brand in Sweden in 2006. Looking to render memories into scents, the brand has mastered the craft of iconic perfumes. The newest scent is a contrasting blend of citrus and spice; the bottle itself makes this new fragrance to-die-for. Top notes of mandarin, coriander and cumin opening to heart notes of creamy leather and smoky tobacco on top of base notes of oud and sandalwood render this earthy fragrance a must-have for your winter 2020 perfume collection.

Calvin KleinDeep Euphoria

Love Calvin Klein’s classic fragrances? The newest gem in the Euphoria crown is Deep Euphoria; part of Calvin Klein’s award-winning fragrance line launched in 2005. Dark purple packaging with light accents gives the perfume a mysterious feel that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality and day and night. Notes of rose, musk, mandarin leaf, pepper, patchouli and white peony give the fragrance a slightly younger feel than its earlier predecessors. The brand describes the newest fragrance in terms of the powerful women they crafted it for, “Calvin Klein women are confident, provocative and released, and Deep Euphoria woman embodies all these aspects with an additional layer of adventure.”

D.S. & DurgaNotorious Oud

Want to switch up your signature scent but want it to still smell like you? If your favorite perfume is oud based, then look no further than this sensual new fragrance. Classic oud is taking a new form in  D.S. & Durga’s ‘Notorious Oud’ eau de parfum. Made in Brooklyn, New York, this fragrance is incredibly international with notes of North African papyrus, Indonesian oud, Afghan saffron and Bulgarian rose. Top notes of saffron and white galbanum open to middle notes of oud and rose, with base notes of papyrus making this perfume a vacation in a bottle.

Maison Francis KurkdjianOud Extrait de Parfum

This rich perfume is an exotic journey with spicy, vanilla and musky accords. An unconventional blend of precious natural ingredients with top notes of saffron, a heart of musky vanilla and a base of Laotian oud and Indonesian patchouli. These international ingredients are rare and highly coveted giving this spicy and rich oud-based fragrance high longevity and serious mystery.

LancomeIdôle

Winter fragrances don’t have to be deep and woodsy. Lancome’s new Idôle fragrance is sophisticated yet fresh and modern. Key notes of jasmine, rose, citrus and white musk are layered over a vanilla base. This floral scent is made from sustainably and ethically sourced ingredients, so it is an indulgence perfume aficionados can feel good about. Another signature feature of Idôle is that Lancome has invented the world’s thinnest fragrance bottle.

Tom FordBitter Peach

It is hard to rank Tom Ford perfumes because they continue to outdo themselves. Exotic fruits, intoxicating florals and a fun vintage colored glass bottle. Bitter Peach is no exception to what is becoming the Tom Ford Fragrance rule – exceptional quality and unique scents that make heads turn. Not your typical winter scent, this fruity-floral fragrance has key notes of peach, davana and patchouli. Tom Ford describes the fragrance as, “Explicitly sweet and dangerously voluptuous, Bitter Peach surges with dark, skin-gripping sensuality. Like the full-flavored fruit at its most ripe, the scent is erotic by nature.”
