Sherihan auctions a dress at Sotheby’s for Beirut. The dress was designed for her role in Arabian Nights has since become the most expensive in the Middle East Cairo on 25-11-2020: Egyptian show star Sherihan is leading several global and Middle Eastern celebrities who are donating some of their exceptional possessions to a charity auction. The international auction house, Sotheby’s, is cooperating with five Lebanese NGOs to raise funds for rebuilding Lebanon and supporting the Lebanese people after an explosion rocked the Beirut Port in August. The proceeds of the auction will be funneled to help the victims of the Beirut explosion.

The items that have been donated for auction, include possessions from international fashion houses, Arab and foreign celebrities, artists as well as international jewelry designers. Sotheby’s will also name one artist as the most popular star on the sidelines of the event. Sotheby’s chose the Egyptian actress, Sherihan, to participate in the auction, with a luxurious silk haute couture gown that she co-designed and wore for her Ramadan show, Arabian Nights in 1987. The dress that bears Sherihan’s signature is considered the most expensive in the Middle East.

The Lebanese singer Majida El Roumi, American actress Emma Stone, international model Naomi Campbell, British artist Damien Hirst, and British singer Geri Halliwell will also participate in the auction. Charitable institutions will share the proceeds from the auction and distribute aid to the most vulnerable societies affected by the August port blast. Following the sale, the proceeds will be donated to five charities, including Nusaned, Beit El Baraka, and Baytna Baytak, whose focus is on shelter for displaced families; Al Fanar, a venture philanthropy organization which provides support for social entrepreneurs and small businesses; and House of Christmas, which will help preserve and protect heritage buildings.

Sherihan started her acting career at an early age and across multiple platforms, including cinema, television, and theatre. She starred in several Ramadan Fawazir and is best known for her roles in Arabian Nights (1985, 1986, 1987), Around the world (1987), and Things & Needs (1993). Although Sherihan chose to remain away from the spotlight, she is still considered an icon of musicals in Egypt. The superstar Sherihan had retired in 2002 on the back of health issues. However, in 2017, during a party sponsored by El Adl Group, she announced coming out of retirement. Most recently, film critic Tarek El Shennawy announced she is once again returning to the theatre in a new play entitle Coco Chanel to directed by Hady Al-Bagouri.
