Founded in 2020 by Egyptian Sarah Yasser, Ophelia Jewelry already feels like it has been on the fashion scene for years. A refined style, high-quality materials, and thematic collections crafted by Yasser herself—Ophelia is making some serious waves. Flair Magazine was fortunate to be able to sit down with the busy artists to ask her about her relatively new label and what it means to be an entrepreneur in 2020.
Can you tell us more about Ophelia Jewelry and what inspired you to start it?
I always had a passion for jewelry from the beginning but I didn’t know how to start. I decided to take jewelry making courses in Italy and Dubai to be able to join the field and have a clear understanding of the jewelry making process and all that it entails. After researching, I create my own designs by sketching and/or using an illustration program. The excitement of sketching your own piece is something incredible but holding it in your hands as a finished work of art is something else entirely.
What does Ophelia Jewelry stand for or what is the significance behind your company’s name?
Ophelia means “help” in Greek and I always believed that jewelry also helps complete your style. That’s why the Ophelia logo has two hands that could be seen as two helping hands.
Tell us about your design style. What makes your collections unique in the industry?
Ophelia jewelry follows the concept of “pure purpose, pure art” going along with the contemporary direction having each collection inspired by a certain concept. It is a Cairo-based online store that features bold jewelry having a statement shown with each piece. This brand believes that a piece of jewelry always completes your style. The pieces are made by Egyptian craftsmen using 925 sterling silver, brass, 18k white or gold plated using precious stones.
What makes my pieces unique in the industry, is that I am trying to implement the combination of the art of identity, quality, and efficiency. Having high-quality pieces with unique/ noticeable designs but also reasonable prices. Each person has their own identity when wearing a piece of jewelry how they style it or feel about it, makes it different. Someone told me before that she loves the sound she hears while wearing a piece of jewelry, meaning the jingling of hoops and bangles makes her feel that she sounds good and more confident. Each person has their own way and each piece always helps in completion.
Owning your own company is a big commitment and very time consuming, can you explain how you find a balance between work and your personal life?
It’s hard and time-consuming but because I am doing something I love and enjoy doing I can always find a balance. A lot of people around me in my personal life help me and guide me so it’s more of a mix of both together.
What does it feel like to see someone on the street wearing one of your creations?
I will feel a mix of excitement, happiness, & success. Not only that all the hard work eventually pays off, but also how beautiful it is to see your piece styled by someone in their unique way that makes it even more beautiful.
