If you’ve been on the hunt for fancy shades to spice up your summer wardrobe, Posh Shades is the answer you are looking for. Offering an impressive variety from around the world, you will find that their collections also hold a consistent theme of individuality and flair. To find out more about this sunglasses boutique, we talked to the founder Yasmine Sarwat.
Can you tell us how your boutique came about and how you came up with the design concept behind it?
Two years ago, I started selling online through Instagram, and when I saw that I was succeeding, I wanted to go bigger. In order to get high-end brands, I needed a store and so we launched the boutique last November. For the design concept, I wanted something different and more modern than what you usually see. My sunglasses are a bit eccentric so I wanted the boutique to be a reflection of that. I was also inspired by Maison Margiela and I communicated that mood to the designer who brought the boutique to life.
How do you pick which designers/brands to work with?
I try to work with the brands that are not widely accessible here and not everyone knows about. My goal is to provide something that everyone wants but is also new and unique to the market at the same time.
When did you decide to offer the option for customers to try out products at home?
This service began two years ago when I decided to provide a luxurious option for my customers. We know everyone has to try on sunglasses before they can decide whether or not to buy them. If they don’t suit them, we allow them to simply return them back. It sends the message that you want them to be satisfied with their purchase, rather than pressure them into it. Especially now during quarantine, this has been a very valuable tool, and I have started noticing other businesses taking the same road.
How was your collaboration with stylist Maya Haddad?
She is a good friend and she loves our shades. Almost every design we have looks good on her. She has really helped us market our brand by talking about it live and posting about it.
In your opinion, what are the latest summer eyewear trends people should take note of?
This season, we have everything. The small frame sunglasses are still there but the bigger ones in lighter shades are stealing the spotlight because they are very in right now.
We heard you designed a piece in collaboration with Spektre only a few months ago. How was that experience?
I really like to wear mirror glasses during the summer so I wanted to create something small and cool with a good price and good quality. It is Italian-made and I think it would make a great birthday present for anyone. It is available at our store, Villa Baboushka and soon at our store in Marassi.
