This summer is all about minimalism—even in makeup. Taking the time to take care of your skin while self-isolating has its perks more now than ever. Working on the natural glow of your skin and manifesting its health gives you the chance to wear less makeup and let your skin breathe.
Summer 2020 is all about fresh-faced with natural radiance of the skin. More convenient than sculpting powders, blush features a lighter gentler way to contour, sculpt and frame your face. Keep in mind that blush with all its texture is considered the signature trick in your makeup game. If you know how to apply it properly, your complexion will be lifted pronto with no surgical interference.
Here’s all that you need to know about applying it better.
Where to wear?
The most appealing place to apply blush is on the upper part of the cheeks. It depends on your face shape and bone structure, Daniel Sandler, celebrity makeup artist assures.
Here’s how to identify your face shape & apply blush correctly
- Oval faces: smile and sweep the color a bit over your cheekbones instead of the exact bone area to extend the area of your cheeks and elevate your eyes.
- Heart-shaped faces: it is better to blend your blush lines to soften the look and make it less pointy and more rounded. Don’t apply blush directly to your cheeks area and focus more on the outer corner of your eyes and ears altogether.
- Square face: since your chin and cheeks are of the same width, blush should be a bit below your cheekbones to define your face and give you that edgier look.
- Long faces: you would want to shorten your face by applying the color on your cheekbones underneath the outer corner of your eyes. Never go below the nose area.
- Moon/round face: matt blushers are better than shiny ones for this shape. Sweep the color from the ear part to your lips & soften the look with blending techniques.
Which type of blush to go for?
Before looking for a brand of blush, you should know a golden rule about its nature. Blush is the only makeup that flies when applied over a ton of base. The color lasts longer when applied directly to your skin. If you apply a primer or a base of foundation beforehand, make sure to wear powder blush instead of liquid or cream ones for a flawless finish.
Liquid blush is best for a super-stay ruddy look from within. It doesn’t slip into your skin through other layers of makeup. Besides, it is suitable for most skin types and perfect for a full day of running errands to a night out. It is better applied with your fingertips as it sinks smoothly into your skin; however, powder blushes better when applied with a soft blush brush.
