Saying, “We have reached peak makeup” is so 2019, but is it true? The seemingly infinite number of beauty brands that flooded the market, celebrity collaborations splashed across Instagram, and the millions of makeup tutorials on YouTube have made the beauty industry hard to ignore. The glam squads for celebrities are becoming famous in their own right and Mario Dedivanovic, also known as Makeup by Mario or @makeupbymario, is one of the most famous MUA’s thanks to his posh A-list clientele.
It’s hard to believe that the man behind Kim Kardashian West’s iconic looks was once just a retail clerk but Sephora is where the celebrity makeup artists began his creative career. It was Mario Dedivanovic the fragrance consultant and greeter who twenty years later would bring everything full circle. In an interview about his collaboration with Sephora Dedivanovic said, “Sephora was a lifesaver for me and the place that I discovered my talent and my true purpose in life. I have an extremely important and meaningful bond to this company. It’s where I discovered my talent. I really feel indebted to them; I know that I would not even be alive had I not discovered them when I did, because it changed my life.” Now, the MUA has teamed up with the French multinational company to create his own line of makeup brushes.
The collaboration is only the second for Dedivanovic this year as he focuses on launching his own makeup line in 2020. While fans await his own launch the international retailer and high profile MUA have designed three collections of brushes: The Eye Brush Set, The Complexion Brush Set, and The Master Set. All of the brushes are made from synthetic bristles so they are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free that comprise the Makeup by Mario x Sephora collaboration. Going synthetic was a creative challenge for the MUA that usually works with handmade Japanese brushes. The challenge comes with the density of the brushes and how they apply the product. Mario explains, “The density of hair in synthetic brushes is traditionally very compact and tight, so when you put it in a product and then on your face, it almost puts too much product on in one spot and then not enough.” According to the pro, the Makeup by Mario x Sephora collaboration e is the perfect tool for both professionals and amateurs as each of the brushes is multi-functional and can be used for three or four different things.
