No matter where you travel to, your skin care routine should come with you. Because even if you’re on vacation, it doesn’t mean your complexion has to be too. In fact, the unfamiliar environment and general travel-related stress can very easily wreak havoc on your skin.
Of course, with all the excitement that comes with going on a trip, you don’t want to be occupied with thinking about your skin care routine. Fortunately, travel skin care isn’t as tedious as you think! Here are some skin care mistakes you should avoid while traveling.
Bringing full-sized products
For all airport carry-ons, the first rule of thumb is to store your liquids in clear containers that are no larger than 100mL. And second, you should make sure that you’re not carrying more than 1L overall. If you really must bring your big bottles of face wash or lotion, just check them in. Not following these rules will get your skin care products confiscated and put to waste entirely.
Neglecting your skin in-flight
Have you ever wondered why your skin is considerably less hydrated when you step off the plane, or how you seem to get breakouts mid-flight? Drying cabin air is bad for the skin because it sucks up moisture and seriously damages its protective barrier. As such, it’s recommended to bring something more hydrating than your typical moisturizer, such as the Express Flower Gel Mask on My Domaine. You may also want to spritz on some face mist to get your skin through the flight.
Not adjusting your routine according to destination
Depending on the climate of the place you’re going to, you will have to adjust your routine accordingly. If you’re going to a place with colder climate, you’ll need to ensure most of your products are geared towards moisturizing — even if you’re used to oil-control. The Snail White Whipp Soap featured on Pretty Me boasts naturally moisturizing ingredients like snail extract, which locks in moisture without the stickiness. After all, you don’t want your face to get all dry and cracked for your photos. Meanwhile, if you’re heading towards the tropics, make sure you’re bolstering your sun care. In this regard, our previous ‘Hair and Skin care Summer Tool Kit’ has everything you’d need to protect yourself from UV harm.
Forgetting about your lips and hands
If you think your face and skin are the only ones that need moisturizing, think again. Frequently washing your hands causes it to dry, so it’s good to have some Vaseline ready in your pocket for easy access. Letting both hands and lips go uncared for can actually cause you pain (blisters and chapped lips don’t heal immediately), which could end up bothering you for the rest of your trip.
Not getting enough sleep
Sleeping seems like a total waste when you have an entire itinerary lined up, but not getting enough shut-eye can cause your skin to flare up. In fact, studies listed on OnHealth reveal that sleep deprivation is one of the primary triggers of acne, along with stress and sweating. So, unless you want to rely on foundation and concealers every morning (which isn’t good for your skin either), take a good rest for a natural, well-rested glow.
While traveling can be relaxing for your mind, body, and soul—it can easily be stressful for your skin if you don’t take the proper precautions. Being in a completely different destination doesn’t give you an excuse to skip out.
