Fashion week is upon us and this year for their Spring 2020 collection the Rodarte sister’s Laura and Kate Mulleavy have taken fashion to the next level. Opting out of a runway show the designs from their 2020 collection will be showcased via a series of fairytale style portraits. The lookbook features many Hollywood A-listers including Kirstin Dunst, Gabrielle Union, Lili Reinheart, January Jones, Kiernan Shipkam, Rowan Blanchard and Yalitza Aparicio. In an interview with Vogue Magazine, Laura Mulleavy spoke about the bold choice to skip the runway saying, “As we’ve become more confident and comfortable in our design voice and really seeing what our personality is within the design world, it’s been really nice to think artistically about creating a world behind each collection. We wanted to create painted portraits. In the end, the images have that quality, not knowing whether or not someone has been painted or photographed.”
The portraits were shot by Daria Kobayashi Ritch featuring a whimsical background creating the romantic and surreal vibe that the Rodarte brand is known for. When looking for a cast the designers wanted to curate a lookbook that featured their friends as well as the women they admire. Each picture is a work of art featuring Greek sculptures, blue skies, pastel colors, ultra-feminine features and of course the muses that were hand-selected to represent the Spring 2020 collection. The entire series is an ode to the beauty of the women featured within the pages of the lookbook and will be shown via appointments in NYC and unveiled exclusively on Vogue Runway. If you can’t make it to New York, here are ten dreamy photos from the lookbook.
