Aside from the fact that fitness fashion is so in right now whether or not you actually plan to hit the gym, wearing the right outfit for your shape can easily help to boost your confidence. Who doesn’t need an extra dash of confidence when they know they’re about to enter sweat-apocalypse? This is your guide on how to look your best while you work out.
Always Shop for Breathable Material
We started with this tip because it should definitely be your number one concern. You want to wear a light fabric like polyester that will actually draw the sweat away from your body to the outer surface. Nylon and Lycra come in as second best, and as for cotton, abort… since it absorbs the heat and makes the sweat eventually cling to your skin. Something we’d rather avoid like the plague.
Wear What Flatters Your Figure
Ignore the trends if they are not in your favor. Make sure every item you buy actually compliments your “assets” and avoid anything too baggy or too tight. Also, if you’re not comfortable trying the outfit on in the fitting room at the store, you won’t be comfortable exercising in it so don’t even give it a second chance.
Light, Natural Makeup Please
No one likes the makeup queen at the gym…trust us. Not to mention how your face will look by the end of an intense workout – with everything running and ruining the look you worked hard to achieve. If you were to put anything on your face, we recommend optional BB cream on problem areas, a tinted lip balm and some waterproof mascara. As for the hair, go for a sleek high ponytail or a cute messy bun.
Find the Right Sports Bra
Not only should you find something comfortable, you should ensure that it’s the right size. You don’t want to deal with unnecessary back or neck pain on top of the pain you will have to endure from the actual workout. Fashion-wise, you want to have around 4-5 sports bras in vibrant colors to make your whole outfit pop.
Don’t Forget Gym Bag–Fitness Shoes Color Coordination
While totally optional, a cute duffle bag makes a stylish statement, especially when you match it with fitness shoes of the same color. You can go for simple chic black or all out like neon and metallic tones. Don’t forget to carry necessities including an antiperspirant deodorant, a colorful water bottle, mini face towel, and sweet-scented body spray. Not that this is news to anyone, but we thought we’d remind you in case you forget.
Here are a few color palettes to inspire your outfit decisions:
- Pale pink with dark brown and hints of white
- Neutral shades like earthy beige combined with blush pinks
- Turquoise with teal blue and dark brown
- Dark red paired with dark grey and hints of white
- Lavender tones and darker purples
- Wild berries theme: play with various shades of red and blue
Otherwise, go for matching outfits in fun prints.
