With summer in full swing, it is important to plan your beach and pool days, while also being ready to keep all summer activities sun-safe. It is best to stay hydrated and avoid any sun or heat related issues. Knowing how to enjoy summer in style is simple with these easy tips!

Hair

Your hair, just like your skin can suffer serious sun damage so you don’t want to forget about your hair when you head out for a day at the beach. Sun exposure is dangerous for hair and its effects include discoloration, split ends, thinning, and frizz. There are many simple ways to keep your hair out of the sun’s rays like wearing a hat or a turban to adding extra conditioner to your beauty regimen. Here are five simple ways to keep your hair sun safe:

  • Hide it- summer is a great time to try new accessories and a hat, turban, or hair wrap
  • Condition it-throwing some conditioner on wet hair to give it an extra barrier of protection
  • Put a mask on it-once the damage is done you can help to reverse it with a nourishing hair mask
  • Wash it less- skip the shampoo and allow the natural oils in your hair to protect it
  • Leave it natural- skip the heat from curling irons and straighteners in the summer months

Eyes

Just like other parts of our bodies sun can cause serious damage to the eyes due to its UV light. Ophthalmologists warn that too much sun exposure can increase the risk of eye-related diseases including cataracts and eye cancer. While these serious diseases take time to develop it is important to be diligent about sun safety. Taking precaution even when outdoors for small amounts of time is a good idea to protect your eyes. Here are five simple ways to keep your eyes sun safe:

  • Wear sunglasses- making sunglasses your favorite accessory is the best way to keep your eyes safe and looking fashionable
  • Wear a hat- wearing a wide-brimmed hat keeps the sun off of the face and eyes. It looks chic and protects sensitive eyes from direct sunlight
  • Use eye drops- keeping eyes moisturized by applying eye drops when out in the heat helps rejuvenate and protect the eyes
  • Cloud cover- do not be fooled by clouds in the sky. Keep your eyes protected even when it is overcast.
  • Avoid direct contact- while looking directly in the sun hurts it is also not a good idea to make direct contact with the sun even when eyes are closed. Don’t fall asleep in the sun!

Skin

Skin comes in many diverse colors and shades, but what makes us all human is that our skin is a sensitive and easily damaged part of our bodies. While sunburns do hurt there is so much more at risk than simply discomfort and even people with darker skin need to cautious of how much sun exposure they are getting. From heat blisters and rashes to peeling skin and melanoma there are many reasons to protect your largest asset. Here are five simple ways to keep your skin sun safe:

  • Sunscreen- this seems obvious but the importance of SPF cannot be overstated
  • Sit in the shade- you can be outside enjoying the day, just do it under an umbrella, while lazing away at the beach or by a pool
  • Avoid peak hours- the sun is at its strongest between 10 am and 3 pm, the rays are strong and can cause the most damage
  • SPF infused make-up- many brands of primers, foundations, and bronzers come with built-in SPF

Our last tip is to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and eating water packed fruits.
